After looking into it a little more it would probably be more likely that Heavy's father was a Counter-Revolutionary during the Russian Civil War. But I ain't no Russian History major so correct me if I'm wrong.

Some of Heavies voice lines are apparently references to Russian literature. Most notably the outsmart bullet line from Meet the Heavy

He's like a big shaved bear that hates people! I feel like Heavy is the most justice-oriented merc - even if he can be cruel at times. He seems to care about children and animals, but can be incredibly violent toward people who have wronged him or chosen to fight him, such as the other mercenaries. He seems like he loves Russia dearly - hence why he still lives in Russia and is willing to display the hammer and sickle during a time in which that was the national symbol most used to represent the country - but is not fond of the Soviet government and Stalinist dictatorship that hurt his family. Also, pootis.

Sometimes when I play Medic and want to charge a Heavy I use the “Activate charge!“ command where Medic goes “Charge me, Herr Doktor!“. Because Heavy is also technically a doctor.

Zhanna's name is not pronounced as a straight "z, " but instead like the s in vision. It's just transliterated as zh into English letters, because Russian has that as a consistent sound with its own letter "ж" and English doesn't.

As for the Dzhugdzhur mountains, it's somewhat simpler- pronounced "Jugjur" with a hard u on both. Russian lacks a "j" and it's transliterated as дж, or dzh.
