Someone in my local town drove a van with huge rod knock. It sounded like a couple of spanners fell inside the engine but it still ran on 4cyl.

I had a 1978 courier pick up truck that started making that noise. I was able to drive it two years that way. I was even able to drive it to the junkyard at the end of the two years.

Sort of specific but…Can excessive connecting rod bearing damage cause an internal engine oil leak allowing oil through the piston o ring wetting the spark plug? Even without the knocking.

@AutoRepairGuys what about the same but intermittent and progressive sound every 15 seconds when the car is stationary, the engine is idling. Appears just when the engine is well heated

If you have a Hyundai and it is making this noise. In the US there is a extended warranty for this exact issue up to 120, 000 miles or 10 years. Take it to a Hyundai dealership immediately
