Big End Bearing Knock or Rod Knock Example

The Hyundai G4KG was suffering badly from Big End or Rod Knock. 3 of the 4 conrod bearings were stuffed. This damage required a complete engine rebuild. The crankshaft was saved but the conrods need to be replaced, along with pistons rings bearing.........etc.

I have a 2013 3.2 xlt bought brand new it that hasn’t missed a beat yet touch wood I hope that never happens to mine it looks expensive ps thanks for all your videos especially the oil change and fuel filter change they are a great insight. I did the fuel filter myself but it took a long time to start even though I followed your video but eventually worked okay turning the ignition on and off but still not confident to do the oil change myself even though I’ve probably done 200 other different vehicles so I will keep paying someone for that and only do it myself in an emergency meaning no other option 👍

I have this issue in a 2006 Ford Escape with 3.0 liter V6. The bearing was smashed and crank journal badly damaged. If I pull the engine and replace the crank, connecting rods and pistons will this be enough? There were metal bits in the oil and I’m wondering if it’s worth repairing this engine or getting a replacement engine. Thanks.

Can you get rid of the metal fragments throughout the rezt of the engine?

Depends really, Conrods are made from hardened tool steel even without oil it takes a lot to damaged journals significantly. (assuming there is some bearing shell left). I just fixed a EJ-DE 1.0 with this problem engine sounded like an old diesel tractor, rather than junk it i figured I would open it up and check. No. # 1 crank bearing shell was squashed and scored. Replaced it and it runs fine. No major damage to crank journal.

Love your videos mate, thanks for taking the time to upload. Have you got any videos planned in future for the puma 3.2 in mitigating the egr cooler failure? I've seen a few vids where people have cooked the engine due to the egr cooler racking and losing coolant into the intake.
