Azerbaijani Lunch Etiquette: traditional Azerbaijani food and how to eat it: In this video, I will show some of the most traditional Azerbaijani dishes that we serve for all kinds of occasions, such as the "king" of our cuisine - "plov"(rice with meat) and our beloved "dolma"(stuffed grape leaves). I will show you how to eat it the formal way as well as informal, or our traditional way. I will also share my favorite childhood snack that my dad prepared for me as a kid called "durmek."

One of the most commonly asked questions is how I maintain my diet and I always respond that I mostly eat Azerbaijani homemade food, which is always prepared from scratch using fresh products from the local markets. In Azerbaijan, we are lucky to have fresh, organic food that is widely available and affordable for everyone. If you are ever in Azerbaijan, try our cucumbers and tomatoes. They are the best you will ever have!

If I had to name top reasons to visit Azerbaijan, food would definitely be one of them!

If you are ever in Baku, stop by Gala Divari, a cozy family-style restaurant located in Icheri Sheher, Old Town, with a very friendly staff to enjoy traditional Azerbaijani food.

In Azerbaijan, we sometimes eat food with our hands, it is not so common, but we do it. But we never eat rice with our hands, only with a spoon.

This was so beautifully explained, and I’m surprised at how many similar things we eat (and names for dishes) in the Middle East. And it’s inspiring because I have a son who just LOVES fresh tomatoes and cucumbers, I will have to start making him Azerbaijani meals 😂

Can't believe the coincidence, I'm watching this video on my phone while walking home and the very moment you mentioned feijoa I lifted my gaze and spotted TWO feijoa trees in a garden I was walking by! 💚

We have the same cucumbers and tomatoes in India as well and we also eat them with meal as salad 😊
And the tandoori roti and the sabzi and the pulav
And we also eat most of our food with hands only (including rice). Using forks and knife is very western style.
Eating with hands allows you to consume food at right temperature and flavour. If it is too hot or cold, it’s not good for our body. Same way if it is too spicy or too sweet, that is also not good for our body and the traditional culture tells to use what dear God has given us to identify the right measures of our food

I had so much of this 'dümbek' that my grandmother and grandfather used to make for me in our small village in Tovuz. They are no longer alive, and I've been living abroad for seven years now. Thank you, Jamila, for this video and for bringing back so many childhood memories.

The way u watched the whole video while I don't even know the place nor do I have plans on visiting the place is just amazing, I also loved that we have almost the same kind of food in Tanzania 🇹🇿 with slight difference in how they are served but huge huge similarities in Pronunciation and how they are prepared. Its amazing. Once again thank you Jamila

Do you have a video explaining the beautiful clothing of Azerbaijan? It's like a perfect balance of western and eastern traditional fashion, it looks like the fantasy clothing in fairytale movies that people dream of wearing.
