YIKES! Here's How to Fix a Loud AC Return Vent - AKA The Noisy Air Vent!

Try this easy 5 minute fix first if your HVAC return air vent starts to sound louder than normal.
If your return air starts to sound noisy or loud, when it's usually pretty quiet, check the air filter behind the grill first!
If the filter is dirty, it's blocking air flow through the filter. That can make your return air vent sound a lot louder than normal. AND, that dirty filter is also reducing the efficiency of your HVAC unit.
So, replace the HVAC filter behind the grill, or return air vent, as recommended to reduce the noise, improve air quality, and HVAC efficiency. 👍

Good video! Is the filter necessary at all? My filter looks clean, but makes my AC run really loud. I just popped it out and problem solved.

It cools my small room great, even in this extreme heat we've had!

Does opening all the vents in the house prevent some of the noise. I notice if i close a vent or two it makes a noisy blowing sound

Hi does this work even if the furnace motor is right next to the vent? No basement here so furnace is right next to our dining room... LOUD

You might try having a carpenter expand the depth of that filter-cavity to fit 5-inch inches worth of filter & you upgrade to have a 4-inch thick filter behind the flimsy ones you're using now. The thick filters seems expensive until the AC guy accidentally puts ugly bends in your coils while cleaning them. Plus air-quality, why should hospitals be the only ones sleeping in MERV-14 air...

Don’t use that type of filter use regular filters with filter coat it adds oil to filter and doesn’t restrict air flow, and they are not as expensive
