I don't know what's worse: Nintendo intentionally bricking 3DS's, or them coming after you for showing how to un-brick them.

man that's messed up.. you should be allowed to do whatever you want with the console you paid money for

It's so wild how they're going through all this trouble to brick modded consoles, when the eShop was closed like two months ago and the 3DS has been discontinued for years... Like we couldn't even buy the games from them if we wanted to 😭😭😭

They shutdown the store but still update the console?
Damn Nintendo.

"Can we mod your system for free games? "

"No"

"Can you at least make the games easy to get legally? "

"No"

Funny Story: There was an update when I was playing Super Mario 3D Land where I needed to update my modded 3DS but lucky for me the Wi-fi was so terrible in my school it prevented me from updating the 3ds. Boy was I lucky.

3DS games are hundreds of dollars on ebay. Nintendo said "welp, missed your chance."

The only way you are getting bricked is if you are on a version before Luma 10.2.1 which came out nearly 3 years ago. So unless you haven’t updated your Luma in almost 3 years.. you are fine to update to the newest 3ds version

“If your device is running Luma 10.2.1 or higher, it is 100% safe to update. You can check your Luma version by holding (Select) while booting your device.”

All this and for what LMFAO theyre not even gaining ANYTHING, they took the shop down, they stopped selling games, theyre 100% not making ANY money from doing this, so wtf????

Funny how they're quick to try and stop modders on the 3ds you know the systen they stopped supporting but don't on the switch or actually fix the problems with the switch like drift, themes, and so on and so forth gotta love that nintendo logic

Just goes to show that the whole e-shop closing was just a cash grab, and they are mad people don’t want to go that route lmao.

"Do you want people to make games inaccessible, or leave the Eshop open for people to buy games?"
Nintendo: *no*

Here’s how I see it: Mods are the way people are able to play games on the 3DS since most people are withholding the actual games that exist, including Nintendo by closing the eshop (this was going to happen inevitably, which is fine). With this new update, Nintendo is intentionally trying to make these consoles malfunction to a point where it will take a person’s time and/or money to repair it (if possible). A new update, might I remind, on a 12 year old discontinued console meant to break a perfectly working console. Nintendo needs to wake up

The update “bricks” modded consoles that are on Luma 10.2 or lower. That’s because in the 11.14.0-46x update (released late 2020) changed something in the PM module which results in the error screen. Update 11.17.0-50x also patched out several exploits.

Pirating all forms of nintendo content is morally correct I sold my switch for a steam deck you add the 2 n 2 together.

Destroying someones property is actually illegal. I wonder if a class action lawsuit is possible. The uodate code is all wed need to prove nintendo had intent to destroy your purchased handheld.

It's common knowledge that you shouldn't update your 3DS until you've updated Luma.
If you updated your 3DS for some reason, it should be as simple as downloading the latest boot.firm.
If it IS bricked, that's why you always keep a back up of your NAND.

This console doesn't even generate revenue to Nintendo anymore. That's lame

This is so stupid! Nintendo closed down the E-Shop and doesn’t care about the 3DS anymore, and Nintendo made an update that your 3DS will be bricked if it’s modded?

It's amazing the lengths that Nintendo will go to just to stop people from enjoying games they'll never port to the newer consoles.
