It can be as simple as plugging in or as complicated as rewiring your house. If you don't have access to 240-volt power, a professional may need to run a new line and older homes may require an entire electrical service upgrade.

Sometimes it’s just easier to run an extension cord to your neighbor’s house. :P

This video makes understanding Level 2 chargers so much easier! I recently had mine installed by Johnson Electric and Controls in California, and they did an amazing job. Highly recommend them if you're planning to get an EV charger set up at home!

So you listed every possible scenario without the "Installation Explained" part for any of them = Clickbait

Went to the hardware store, $153.22 later we have a level 2 charging station. 5k to do that is crazy!

I asked for a quote for level 2 capable line out to my detached garage. Quote was over $2000 minus some tax credits. No thanks. I decided to just continue my 120v charging which has rarely been a problem if I plan ahead

I live in Sacramento. I was told by my electrician that most of his call back problems occurred because of the use of the NEMA 14-50 plug, that hard wiring was the way to go. I asked about the Dryer plug in my laundry and he said that that plug was limited to 24 volts. My 32 volt charger could use that plug or similar but would charge slower. It wasn't just him it was most of the guys in his company said the same thing and the cost virtually the same. My neighbor used a different Electrician and was given a similar story. I had the Charger hardwired and have had no problem.

Thank you for the video. My thought is if my house requires major electrical upgrade just to install an EV home charger, then it is no point buying an EV in the first place.

Got quoted $8k for upgraded panel and cost tor in line through my attic and out front of my townhouse. Literally can’t buy an EV without level 2 charging with as much as I drive. Very frustrating

I installed two Tesla Wall Connectors to one 60 amp breaker (they have a power sharing mode). It was a pretty easy installation. Only hard part is pulling thick cable through conduit. Utility company gave me a rebate for the cost of the chargers. We love our two Teslas. Don’t think we’ll ever go back. I have an F-150 in the driveway that just sits there looking sad.

Don’t know where you live but in my state you must have an electrical permit to install new plugs. If not, and at sale time the inspector finds you did not have one it can get expensive post facto or you might have to remove the “un-permitted” device. Spent about $500 for an external weather proof NEMA 14-50 outlet on the front of my garage along with two 120 VAC household outlets in the garage.

A used a spare dryer plug and passed the 50 amp wire through the vent using an adapter and another tesla adapter on the other end. The model S I just bought charges at 32 amp as determined by the tesla connector. 350 for the wire from amazon and the adapters are around 30 each.

Kia EV6 says it has a built in charger. Does this mean we wont need to purchase a charger as depicted in this video?

I got quoted $5k. Gonna watch some youtube and rent a hammer drill.

200 amps is “plenty”. How can you make that assumption without knowing anything about the home. We have 400 amp and are pushing, may need second meter. Ymmv

Where the hell is the explanation? What a waste of time.

I looked into a service upgrade from 100 amps to 200 amps, not for an EV, just because my panel is full... The guy doing work on the side, $6000, and I had to take care of the power company. The licensed electrician, turn key, $15, 000. And I called several outfits, $15, 000 was average. This did not include the sub-panel in my garage, or the charger. This is in the Detroit area. I made these enquires last year, 2023. Tell me why I should purchase an EV? I will be dead before there is ever any ROI, assuming the EV lasts that long.

A nema 14-50 is all you need. Any electrician can install one. I got 2 installed for my two teslas and it was super simple. And a hard wired version should be even less to install since you don't need to buy the recepticle. Why is it that we take something that is so easy and scare people into thinking it is so hard.

No such thing as a level 2 Charger . All E.V.s have the chargers built into them

At some point in this century, you will be able to buy a humanoid AI robot servant. A similar charger will work for that as well. You will be able to download a voice for the robot, even celebrity voices. We will have robots making robots on vast assembly lines.
