Honestly if you're really in the industry I would say hold off anyway. I would also say this camera is for anyone that has been looking for a good cinema camera and been waiting or upgradting from the 4k and 6k. Don't buy if you're GOOD!

Great pointers, tips and suggestions. Skillset always shines through better than what camera you have. I'm still on the Sony a7iii. I've learned so much about maximizing the full use of the tools you have. When monty permits, you get better tools but bettering you skillset is always the most important.

Amen. Tech comes and goes. I think the reason we fixate on it sometimes is that, whether or not you can afford it, it is the easiest problem to solve. The hard stuff is dedicating your time, taking risks, failing (a lot), making mistakes and getting rejected. Only then will you grow beyond things that you can just go out and buy. I heard someone say recently that if you want to be an artist you have to go out and get rejected over and over again until you are immune to it, and then you will find a truly unique voice because you won’t care what anyone thinks anymore. YouTube can often perpetuate the idea that new gear will solve your problems but it can’t.

Dude, I needed to see this lol. I own the BMPCC 6K G2 for my own narrative work and I already invested in gear. When the Pyxis news came out it was all I can think about, I really wanted that box look cause of the hype. I had to tell myself what I’ve invested in already is more than enough to tell my stories. Props to you man for keeping it a buck 💯 You’ve been one of my favorite creators since I found your Meike lens review for the pocket 4K a while back.

I want this camera, not because it's the latest but because I've been wanting a box style camera for a while. I have the pocket 4k rigged out and if I was to sell it I think I couls get enough to cover the PL version. However that's just the start, I'd need several thousand more for lenses, monitor, power etc etc. Count the cost.

I ended up getting the R5C and coming from Panasonic and micro 4/3 I had no idea what I was getting into. Needed a cage dummy batteries female batteries USB-C charging banks type b cards. This man is spitting knowledge right now and we all need to sweep it in including myself

Literally DIS!!! Ppl are truly shackled to gear instead of simply using shit for tools. Like the Red X & Canon C70 im GOOD, why would i downgrade. Its about what these tools are used for...ppl keep focusing on gear vs improving their skills. I literally USED the Canon 6D II for 5yrs before NEEDING to upgrade to the Lumix S5II because it literally upgraded my work and workflow. Its the tool but my focus is upgrading my skills over gear. Well said bro! Shows u truly care bout the craft vs capitalism.

I also agree with you 100%! For some reason, YouTube has become what QVC used to be on TV. We are constantly REMINDED of what's NEW, what's EXCITING, what's GROUND BREAKING and it's EASY to start to truly BELIEVE that new gear is the ANSWER to creativity and inspiration. (This is why the terms "influencer exists.)

I have learned the POWER of limitations when it comes to creativity! When I think of great directors, I think of their WORK.. the movies they produce, NOT the camera gear it was shot on.

When I listen to an album that I love, I don't IMMEDIATELY think of the compression settings on the mic, how much eq is on the vocal chain or limiting was used during mastering.. I just ENJOY the song.

Lastly, so many creators are making content FOR creators which is WILD to me! lol..
