US Defence Secretary says he expects to see Ukrainian offensive in spring

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Tuesday (February 14) that he expected Ukraine to conduct an offensive against Russia in the spring.

Noting that Ukrainian forces had used a lot of ammunition since the start of the Russian invasion, Austin said the members of the alliance were ready to ensure that Ukrainian armed forces obtain "as much ammunition as quickly as possible."

Speaking after a meeting with defence ministers of Ukraine allies in Brussels, Austin added that there are currently no signs Russia is massing aircraft for a potentially larger air attack.

U.S. Joint Chiefs Chair Army General Mark Milley told reporters Russia has lost strategically, operationally and tactically in its war in Ukraine.
