I was so excited for The Gods Below, even preordered it. But I was really disappointed in it, cool premise, didn’t pull it together at all for me. 😢

I'm so glad that Rough Pages was good, I recently got it out of my library and haven't started it yet. I actually found the Evander Mills Series thanks to your channel, so thank you for that I love the series. I have been impatiently waiting for the next part of the series when the new book was announced. As someone who reads mysteries and historical mysteries as my main genres. I agree that mysteries aren't the strongest part of the book and the guilty party is usually easy to figure out. But for me, I think he does a decent job with the mysteries compared to others. What is the best part of the book in my opinion is the history and getting a look into the queer world of San Francisco at that time. Honestly, the hardest part of reading these books is all the internalized homophobia and self-hatred that was strong during this time having to live in hiding.

October reading has been a bit of a mixed bag (but September was as well.) I haven't read any books I absolutely hated but I did have two books that were disappointments and one of those in particular I was extremely hyped for and it fell flat for me.

I've had a disappointing reading year tbh, compared to last year.
