Yamaha FZ8 Review

For those that seem like it’s too small for how tall they are (6’4”, myself) get dirt bars, adjust the rear brake pedal so you don’t have to crunch your foot and ankle to get above it. Get a thicker premium seat. Adjust the driver pegs if you have extra long or short legs for how tall you are. Taller people often have more back problems. Maybe consider an aftermarket or personally created back rest. My back rest is the cooler I use for doordashing on the bike and storage when not. I’m 6’4” 270 lbs. (Ik, im heavy, got some good chub left and stretched skin but also got a very good amount of muscle, to where my triceps and other things are quite defined, just barely before the beginning of vascular body %). Bike is super quick and fast even with my fat tall muscley ass riding it.

R779 conversation. Take the cams, valve springs, valves, etc, basically the entire top end of an r1, put them in the fz8 and it’ll fit because the fz8 engine is based on the r1 engine. Goes from 106hp to 143hp. Yamaha sells a performance upgrade package that is basically the top end of an r1, but upgraded. If you got cash, fork it out and you have one hell of a powerful bike that’s also a beautiful conversation starter

A good tip: long exhaust pipes increase torque in high rpms. Short exhaust does exactly the opposite.

Good review! would like to see some handling and not just straight roads though.
If the mirrors are so bad, get some other ones? And with the busa and the 1st/2nd gear issue at 30, I'd just change sprocket sizes if it bothered me. Did that with a quad bike I had.

Good review, If you gripe is power compared you higher powered bikes, it is the wrong bike. Would think power is ok for the bike in normal trafic. Otherway around, why don't your mates adjust to the slowest of the group? You still have it? Eyeballing one second hand, any things I need to check, model specific weak points?

I have a 2012 WGP Anniversary Model and have no challenge at all keeping up with my litre bike buddies. The bike is tame and street manageable @ 5, 000 rpm and below. In the 7, 000+ rpm range it is an absolute terror. It's like two completely different bikes. No disrespect intended at all, but maybe hone your riding skills a bit for the faster pace? This bike is not slow or lacking in sharp handling at speed. It is scary fast above 7, 000 rpm to redline.🙂

I totally agree that the mirrors are absolutely hideous looking and function poorly, like an afterthought grabbed from the general parts bin at Yamaha, added on before shipping it out. 😐 I replaced them with aftermarket immediately.

Inseam measurement is much more useful when describing seat height vs feet down.
Total height does very little for the viewer.

Thanks Dude, very nice report. I just bought a 2012 FZ8 too because I'm getting back on after 14 years (Fazer 600 at the time). Good-natured bike. Keep it up :-) Very objective report.

I got Fazer 8 2011 love it, got a real good flow good breaks heaps power over take heaps after market parts to custom . Love to try mt09 next

Two naked bikes were specifically built to be minimalist in design
Three throw th mirrors in the garbage
Four your spot on could use adjustment in suspension

I hit a deer the other morning on my FZ6, I much appreciated the weight, Pretty sure I blacked out and when I came back to I was still upright and rolling. I thought for sure I was going to eat pavement.

I have a pretty bad back looking to get the FZ1 FZ8 or the MT-09 I'm coming from an R6 I'm worried the FZ will be too slow for me and I'll get bored of it definitely still going to keep my R6 but just want something more comfortable maybe just a little faster than my R6 would you still recommend the FZ8 but I would get the fairing version
