I have a 25 year old spinning reel and this never happened to me once. No matter what I hit when I was still a beginner, and I hit a lot of shit. Trees, posts, bridges etc.
I dont think a baitcaster gives you any advantages over a spinning reel besides looking "cooler". Theres been months where we had no money and I needed to literally live off fish, and I did not go hungry a day.
You´ll love it once you return to a more oldschool relaxed approach to fishing

I know everyone loves their bait caster, but that right there is why I will stay with my open face. I promise I can cast anywhere you can with your bait caster.

Swear I have a spinning reel that I use for spinfishing, the thing is 25 years old and this has never happened to it in 2 1/2 decades of fishing it nonstop. No matter what I did to it especially as a beginner when I would still hit trees, posts, the damn boat or anything. I even hit a couple of bridges, like on top of them and had to reel em back in fast before cars drive over my bait/line hahhaha
anyway, no baitcaster for me. Dont need to fix whats not broken.
