Video recap basically goes: "So, when you are playing agains a 500 rated player player it's very important to... wait, I checkmated him. Let's try again. As I was saying, when you... wait, I checkmated him again"

I like how she reinforced the chess lesson by finding two different players to make the same exact moves back to back.

If you are under 800, you can surpass it by playing safe, fundamental moves.
1. Develop all your pieces before trying to attack (unless there's a tactic that will immediately win material).
2. Keep your pieces protected. Unsafe pieces become targets. Every move should aim to make progress whilst keeping your pieces safe.
3. Always check for threats, particularly with the opponent's queen. Your eyes should be trained for B+Q and N+Q checkmates.
4. Don't trade active pieces for inactive pieces, and do trade inactive pieces for active pieces.
5. Keep training tactics through puzzles. Puzzles are the way chess players maintain and improve their vision.

I've seen many chess videos but 15:13 is my favorite moment in all of them 😂

While listening to you talk, i was imagining all the deep conversations you must have had with your mum when you were little. Your fundamental understanding really helps you make decisions on the fly. Awesome video. Thanks a lot.

you are so well spoken and such a good teacher. Just love the way you can vocalize your thoughts as you consider each move.

As a beginner chess player this is a very helpful video! Thanks for uploading!

I learned quite a bit from this. What I run into the most is instead of holding tension on the board the opponents are always trigger happy about trading pieces and it leaves us both with very few pieces to work with. That being said, seeing how you pin pieces giving yourself time to develop faster than the opponent was a huge help.

Thanks for the great video!
You make this look so effortless, in part because you're so incredibly quick to assess the board, whereas as a <1000 (rapid) a big reason I lose is simply overlooking things. But my #1 mistake is probably playing too much blitz and bullet (you recommend against this)

More videos like this! Very helpful to see you playing the game and commenting on your thought process and what the other person is doing.

This style of live feedback vids are some of the most helpful for me, very relatable. Looking forward to the next ones of 900+ where you might have a bit more chance to teach =)

Lol, that checkmate. I just had a 1000 player walk into that the other day.
As a sub-1000 player myself, the best lesson I’ve had so far was one from Robert Ramirez on board vision. It’s a simple exercise but it has helped me so much. All of Anna’s tips in this video are also fantastic, not that a great player like her needs any validation from a scrub like me.

Please do make more of these videos. I can never break out of the 1000 rating group

Powerful, dynamic, and thoughtful! I can respect that! A great team effort! Keep on doing that thing you do, and you can’t ever go wrong!

This video was extremely insightful. Nobody teaches the way you just showed moves. I just started playing chess with a super low rating around 400 and would definitely wanted to progress. Please keep this kind of tutorials coming👍🏼🙏🏽

Great video, really useful. I love the idea of the other player racking their brain trying to figure out the best move while Anna is just sat there making a YouTube video making it look effortless 😅
