This place is on my US trip bucket list - and I have to admit seeing your approach to shooting this is amazing. Thank you for taking the time to make a whole video about it.

Great video and shots Todd, love that one at 18:00. After having a great experience at Great Sand Dunes late last year, getting to White Sands is really high on my list!

Nikon z8 has a curtain that protects the sensor when turned off. It is great for changing lenses in questionable circumstances.
another great video Todd.

After out shooting in WSNP this morning, I’m sitting here in the boondocking campground on Holloman Lake watching your new video about shooting here. So perfect. (And, of course, I got the e-book). I’ll be here for a couple more days. Love your beautiful videos and images, Todd, and I always learn from you. Thank you!

After having watched one of your earlier vlogs on WSNP, we ventured to the park after Thanksgiving so I could shoot sunset and sunrise the next morning. Your description, as always, meticulously captures the colors and patterns one can experience. Just a magical place I plan on returning to again soon. As you said, the dunes and the light are different each time. Well done, thanks for sharing.

Another great video. I love these long videos where you visit an amazing location and just spend time looking about and finding interesting compositions. I find them both interesting and relaxing. 👌🏼

I was just there (Apr 2025). There was a large area that was designated as a safety zone, no stopping or walking allowed. (Apparently there was some sort of "unfortunate accident" on the nearby military testing grounds) Luckily I arrived about 2 hours before sunset. I'm looking forward to developing the images... but I won't have anything as amazing as yours! I'm a portrait photographer who is transitioning to a more "solo" style. I loved your instructive approach and will be following. Thank you!

Having photographed here since 2012, I always find myself using the 70-300 quite a lot. One other thing that is fun to photograph are the small animal’s tracks in the gypsum.

As a shooter from Scotland, I am indeed no stranger to beauty in landscape or astro, but that park, and the way you photographed it was subime. Kudos! What height are you? That's a good tripod, I am using Gitzo 3 mountaineer, which gets it above my head.

Love images. That is the exciting thing about shooting sceneics. You NEVER get the same picture. The same place is different every day.
As for footprints, you might try one of those rechargeable blowers that presume to replace canned air dusters. I've used it for concealing marks in sandy dirt. It might work on desert sand footprints. Worth a try. Keep the adventures coming. Love it.

Todd the Z8 has a dedicated sensor shield that pops over it every time the camera is off, The canon uses its real shutter, and the newer Sonys do it too... So hopefully Fuji can just start doing it! No reason not to do that.

WSNP was an incredible location to photograph when for a couple $$ you could get a permit to camp out in the dunes. Most of the best locations are farther away than you get into before sunrise, or out of before sundown and a locked gate. Was a great location for milky way imaging as well. Great photography Todd! 👏👏👏

This is my favorite place on earth to shoot. It's basically impossible to not come away with at least a great photo.
