NYPD officers moving to Florida in droves

Trained in New York but working in Florida? Many NYPD officers are handing in their badges and then heading south. For a little over a year, Florida's governor has been luring them, and now moving companies are even partnering with him. CBS2's John Dias reports.

As a Brooklynite, if you have the chance to leave NY, leave. Don't listen to people. NY is toxic and wants to make you feel bad for going elsewhere. I went to Houston for college and I regret not fully appreciating the opportunity. Life was different out there, it was spacious. It was fun. People treated me like I was a Texan already. Just go and experience life elsewhere.

I'm retiring after serving 20 yrs with the NYPD on December 31st, 2022, and I can't wait. I'm staying in NY, but many Cops are leaving to join other departments for better pay and more support, and I can't blame them.

It’s so sad that the NYPD doesn’t see the problem, working 5 days a week for 8hours and 35 mins, quotas, days off being denied, struggling to find child care, ordered overtime almost 3 times a week, most days going without a lunch hour, arrest processing that takes almost 5-12 hours, bosses that don’t know what they’re doing, only promoted because they cheated on a test. Man the NYPD doesn’t give their officers anything. First time homebuyers down payment! I would move too! It’s not worth being a nypd police officer at all. Go where you are appreciated!

Its not just a year ago....I left NYPD in 2003 for a South Florida Department and didn't look back

When I retired from a police department in California, the first thing I did was pack it in and get out. Havent regretted my decision for one second. Very happily living in Eastern Tennessee. No desire to return to the Lost Angeles area.

Born and raised in Brooklyn most of my life. About 5 years ago my wife and I moved down to Florida, leaving our families behind. They told us Florida would be terrible, too hot, too quiet, etc. I realized our families were INDOCTRINATED by the NY politicians and media. Best move of our life, we are so happy down here. Oh guess what ? My family came down "just for a visit". Now they own a home in our community and have AWAKENED to paradise. We have plenty of friends and co workers in NYC but you couldn't PAY ME enough to go back - not even to VISIT

As a former New Yorker moving to Pennsylvania and now living in Fort Myers I say go for it. Beautiful environment nice weather. I’ll be bringing in the new year in the 80s. Don’t miss the snow at all

I love that Florida has the Stand your ground law.. here in New Jersey you can be arrested for shooting a burglar trying to break into your home
