Wow!! When I solved the 17x17 I remember how long it took to just find the piece I was looking for. Counting is hard! And JPerm at the end for the win!

What's more mind-boggling to me is how this thing was made.

The fact that this probably turns better than Rubik's brand just makes me laugh..

It's amazing how someone can have that discipline to sit there for hours on end and solve something that seems impossible. This guy has a gift.

7:22 “I’m actually… not enjoying this, but I’m enjoying the concept of it.” Why did I relate to that so much? 😂😂

That was astounding. I could have that for 20 years and not figure it out.

That was insane! I can't even imagine trying to tackle that puzzle. And the fact that the pieces aren't solid enough to not pop out doesn't help. The moment a piece came out, I'd be like, "uhhh...so much for THAT puzzle.."

Impressed.
At Xmas 1980 an old pal I hadn't seen for a while suggested we meet at a bar for dinner. When I arrived he was playing with one of these new Rubic's Cubes. After half an hour I decided that he was just twisting the thing at random as we talked. As dinner arrived, after an hour, he tossed it to me, saying Merry Christmas!
So I now had a cube that I had never seen in its solved state. There were "how to books" available but there would be no fun in following a recipe, so I spent a couple of weeks learning some basic moves, and after I had a set of basic moves worked out, I was ready. I created an algebra, wrote down my cube's position, and a list of moves to solve it. Some of those moves required 12 twists to get one result, and several required 4 of those moves. So certainly not an optimal solution, but it did work.
Its over 40 years since I last saw those notes. I wish I had them as evidence now :-)

This would be the perfect cube for Shaq o Neil's hands

This definitely seems like it would be more fun with a digital cube. The occasional popped piece was truly terrifying, but even just turning the thing seemed like an absolute pain.

I find it interesting how sometimes I feel I'm wasting my time doing the things I like and here's a man spending about 6h+ doing something he enjoys not even considering it a "waste of time" because it is an interesting experience for him that he can share with other people as well.

Productivity bullshit pepople have been spreading out make me not completely enjoy the things I like.
Props to you, man

It's so satisfying when people get the centers on these big cubes.

I have tried and struggled to understand regular Rubik's cubes and honestly I feel like watching this solve has helped me understand the mechanics so much more than dozens of 3x3 videos

I just love the dramatic music when one of the pieces pops out, 23:56. "Well this cube is easy to fix"

The fact he used a danger warning such as "do not try this at home" for a massive cube like this one shows how powerful it is.
