I would disagree, it's very likely someone's first camera will be a crop sensor, a 35mm is a much better focal length for a starter, 50mm is quite narrow on crop. Full frame 50mm absolutely but it's not likely they will start with that combo.

It’s great as a photo lens, I wouldn’t necessarily use it as a video lens unless you’re keeping it in manual focus. The autofocus is slow and inconsistent in video mode. Great lens in general though.
