Also have look at my invention, a floating biofilter, Olive. Just search on youtube "Olive biofilter". Available now, Olive kit £925

Hey thank you for answering my question above and beyond!!! I have some large 1/2 acre ponds on our property and think I will try and run some piping via a rotary pump to a fiberglass swimming pool and overflow back to the pond🤷‍♂️

David, I've been using tomorite on my hair after shampooing and now I can proudly say I have luscious mane just like yours.

Does the wetland /planted zone always have to have 1:1 surface area as the swimming zone? Would it possible to have a separate wetland zone with only 20% surface area of the swimming zone if the regenerative zone has 5ft or more of different layers of gravel - a simple biofilm filter and a some plants on top?

Could the swim zone be indoors and the planted zone outdoors? Day like the swim zone is a permanent bath inside

i've represented plants with plants 🤣

Does the planted zone have to be same body size of water if using a bigger pump system for flow?

This is cool. If you've kept it running, some kind of control tank without filtration would make the comparison clearer (no pun intended!)

I've been enjoying your videos and hope to build an organic pool someday. Is there is a ratio between the filtration area to the swimming area? In this demonstration the ratio appears 1:1, meaning the swim zone (clear water) has the same area as the filtration zone. Can one make the filtration zone smaller than the swim zone and still have clear safe water? Is there a ratio tipping point where it becomes less effective? Are there different considerations based on climate? For example, I live in the desert. Would I need a deeper swimming area to help regulate the water temperature? Would the heat and intense sun of the desert require deeper filtration areas?

Thank you so much for the videos! I spend my summers dreaming about an organic pond. It's 107 degrees today. Ah!

Could this method be used to filter rain water for drinking ?

Mr @davidpaganbutler, i have questions. only plants on regeneration zone ? no sand, small n big rock/gravel ? would that be enough to clean the water all the time ? how about if the swimming pool is infinity pool then the water drop on one side like waterfall to regeneration area like yours only plants, would that works fine ?

Hi Mr David: One Question the submerged black pipe in the plants zone, have perforations along, or the water enters only from the ends ?
Thank you for sharing your experiences Greetings from Chile.

Without fish, how do you ensure that mosquitoes don't breed in the water? Where I live, it's law that you can't have stagnant water bodies that might attract mosquitoes. So I have a backyard pond with koi carp and guppies in it so that mosquitoes don't breed in it... Would love to know since I'm planning to make a natural swimming pool in a project next year...

Hi David, I like the idea of the floating plants. I am in the process of designing a pool much like how you construct them with a few quirks added in. I have a couple of questions though, one is that for the subsoil for the marginal plants (1m zone running the length of the pool filled with mostly iris) I wanted to use the soil that came out of the ground, as not to waste good soil, however I've found with a test hole that a lot of it is chalk, as in, 20cm top soil then solid chalk. Do you have any experience/findings on chalk? Also im not sure how deep to make the water for the marginal plants, i'm thinking about 10-15cm depth, if I have Iris pseudacorus what depth of water would you recommend?
Any help appreciated!

Would that same pump, with an added split to have two air lines, and two set of "air pump system", one on each tank, work and create a loop of water circulation where both tank take water from their own and share it?

What's a good ratio of swim zone to planted zone?

Great for Florida, I worry about alligators hiding in the planting zone. Better to separate and compartmentalize for safety. Will build a pond when I retire in a few years.

Hey David, this is awesome! I have a few IBC containers that I might be able to use for something like this. I'll let you know how it goes!

Hello David, awsome experiment !

I have a question regarding the ratio of swim zone vs. planted zone.
Here it seems you've gone 1:1
- How "small" can you make the planted zone compared to swiming zone ? 2:1, 4:1? (for a small garden for instance)
- Can I dig a deeper planted zone so the surface is narrow but the volume is the same ?

Many thanks in advance for your advices and expertise !
Julien from France

Dave, you need to do some research into hydroponic filtration.
