How to Create Dynamic Named Ranges in Google Sheets

Help me understand - and I'm asking genuinely, not being a jerk - what does this accomplish that simply doing a sum formual of D2:D1000 doesn't? Maybe I'm missing where the extra advantage is to doing it this way

That's not a dynamic named range, that's a named range in a function that is dynamic. I need an actual dynamic named range where the range itself changes based on a function I have in a cell.

Sir, can i make pivot table to dynamic? I used open range in pivot table souce location to make it dynamic, but there always will be a always a blank row in pivot table, is there any better solution to make pivot as dynamic and also no blank row like ms excel?
