As soon as I heard “bugs bunny” I knew where this was going

The vanishing American is also a film and book from 1925 about the exploitation of a Navajo tribe during Ww1. Might've been what they were referencing.

Native Americans are one of the most openly and heavily discriminated against groups in the Americas.
I’ve read so many articles and complaints that from people that try to erase them and get rid of them all together.
It’s no question they are world-known to be the original inhabitants of the Americas and it’s so sad to see how they still are being treated.

When I was in first grade, we were doing projects about local tribes, most of the kids made teepees and whatnot, and I was so proud to say Im Native American! One of the kids in my class said "you can't be an indian, aren't they all dead?" And I was too young to even begin to process I had been told I couldn't be who I was because my ancestors were murdered to extinction. That everyone was so aware of the genocide my people had gone through and talked about it like it was normal. Growing up indigenous in the land of your colonizers is a harrowing experience.

So, my history class last year did a really good job of not whitewashing history and giving us a full understanding while staying inside the curriculum. We had days where we learned words from different Native American tribes and learned about each dialect. Overall it was an interesting class to take and I’d do it again if I could.

Alright, I've read the comments for 30 mins. About half of them were disregarding and disrespecting them. We honestly have a long way to go.

I just had a conversation with my boyfriend's cousin about how shitty it is when someone tries to deny you of your own heritage and culture when they have no idea how your culture works. For context we're both indigenous with roots going to a few different tribes, but we are also white passing, her more than me since I have black hair and brown eyes while she has red hair and blue eyes. She was telling me about how she had a customer tell her she couldn't be Native because of how she looked, and I've had other Native people doubt my knowledge on Native culture because they assumed I was some college kid working a summer job in a tourist town. I'm just thankful to have such a proud community that you can see is growing in cultural values and showing more and more of its indigenous history.

I'm from Oklahoma and had a few native classmates. One little girl in particular i knew who was so sweet and shy. Kids would do the "war cry" thing with thier hands and mouths at her during class and recess.

(My mom's grandfather was full Choctaw, but i didn't grow up in or around the Native culture, and honestly don't consider myself as right to claim it)

but i still remember that girl's face as people kept asking her dumb questions or did the call at her. We were in like first grade too.

There was one boy who stopped and went "do you think ots funny when i do thag?" Anf she said "no" and he said "oh... sorry, I won't do ir anymore." Amd to his credit he never did. But she was eventually pulled from school, i think it was because of the bullying.

What they did to the native americans should be considered one of the worst crimes of our time. A stain on america's reputation.

As a kid I did a lot of traditional Native storytelling for things like museum events or schools and at the end I'd always answer some people's questions about Native Americans. MANY people asked me if Native Americans were extinct... While I was standing right in front of them.

Yeah im part native american(and other things like white, french etc but predominantly native and secondarily white) it was confusing as a kid learning about what happened to native americans but when i hit middle school i learned why there werent so many native americans and it honestly made me really sad and i finally understood my moms anger on the topic of native americans being erased

Yea, what is with that? So many times throughout my life, I've heard people say that Native Americans are just gone. I'm only part Native American myself, so I can't fully relate to how it feels to hear such things, but it just sounds incredibly disrespectful. The people and their culture may not be everywhere at all times, but they're most certainly not gone...

She is likely talking about Injun Joe, or the depiction of him from the show. Same name in show.

Anthony was very out of his depth in this video, when he named the Washington Football team you saw how much that annoyed her but they both handled it well. Not a diss, impressed that he is willing to put himself in that sort of position to give people a platform to talk about themselves, would be very easy to pick and choose things he knows he can handle so respect for that.

Dude I can’t believe this, I never forgot that cartoon either I saw that an it stuck with me for ever wow I can’t even I’m lost for words.
Wow I’m at a loss. Growing up I was like the token native guy i ways asked all the time what it was like to be the last of my kind growing up not on the reservation.

I cannot comprehend how negatively America views it's past with other people's, but native Americans get no recognition for the atrocities committed against them.

“ let’s say it is bad for people to make characters in one way” go to literally any land “ owned” by “ native Americans” you will only see crap that was from like 200 years ago. Also you can’t say you are Native American anymore like you are special. There are millions who were born here and are natives

I live next to Pine Ridge reservation. If you dont know, Pine Ridge is the most poverty stricken place in America. One worry is that when winter hits in SD and the roads get really bad, the department of transportation cleans up the roads just a smidge but in Pine Ridge, they don't even touch the roads. Eventually the roads get so bad the whole winter nobody can go in or out and dont even get me started on the packs of dogs that roam the streets that have had to suffer through the summer heat and will now have to face horrible winter.
