Question/Observation here -

I'm an American who moved to New Zealand a couple years ago. I grew up watching the NFL and still follow it really closely. I got into rugby a few years ago and absolutely adore the sport.

There's a lot of talk in the rugby media about "ball in play time" and how increasing that is believed to be a better viewing experience. However the NFL always has a ton of viewership with almost no "ball in play" time, and I think a lot of it is down to the quality of the broadcast.

While I think the commentators here in NZ for rugby are generally great, is there more that can be done as set pieces are being set up to show off real-time stats/season stats, highlight high impact plays that maybe aren't obvious to a casual viewer, etc?

Those are the things the NFL does really well between plays to keep viewers engaged.

Love the show, cheers!

Ardie is a proper dude - humble, thoughtful, and a proper warrior on the pitch.

Prefer your show to the other show where egos are dominating. Parsons and Hall are good analysts AND down to earth people.

Christo from SA. Enjoy your shows and the respect all of you show to all teams. What a diff to the Northern shows where people are always breaking the Boks down. Thank you!!

I think that one of the biggest reasons the AB's are failing to beat rush defences is around the number 10 and 12 combinations.
Number 10's, recent AB's 10's have beeen fullbacks who are moving to number 10. This is why Beauden B, struggled with rush defence. Fullbacks, are used to have a litlle bit more time and space. Natural 10's were Carter, Cruden, Lima. Mounga was affected by what was happeing at 12. Remembr D Carter, always used to say they when he was in trouble he woud just pass the ball to Ma'a Nonu.
Number 12's: Nonu used to break the line whenever he had the ball in hand. 90% of the time he would beat the first defender with power, step and speed. It used to take on average 2 to 3 defenders to deal with 1 Ma'a Nonu break, so the defences had no time to rush out, they were always on the back foot.
Jodie is another 12 who was a fullback, like Havilli. Jodie can be a bit static and indecisive, hence the last worldcup final Peter-Steph du Toit targerted him and was sucessful at all times. AB's badly need a 12 who is quick and can break the gain line all the time, like Aki has been doing for 'Ireland'. This will help DMac a lot as a 10.

Good to see the respect these guys have for our team. At Eden Park it will be much tougher again and could be a comfortable AB win. For the return game at Twickenham in the autumn I think England could come out on top.

I was on the edge of my seat to be honest.., wow! Obviously The British came here to play, and I must admit that they are a very good team! Well done our boys in the end....

Do only South Africans watch this show? Good one guys! Much more balanced and watchable than the other NZ show. Keep it up.

People expecting the All Blacks to click immediately is unfair. Remember this is the first game under a new coaching staff that just had to keep it simple enough to give us a chance to win. Start comparing them to sides like SA and Ireland after the series. Give the team time to gel and see what a formidable side we going to be. Up the ABs🇳🇿🖤

the big takeaway was we changed plan to deal with rush D. The only problem was, it wasnt done by the players automatically, it happened after half time when they were probably told to. But hopefully this opens eyes in the abs team that on field smarts means playing or adapting to what is in front of you and showing your opponent different looks

All the Southern hemisphere teams were a bit rusty and will look alot better after a couple of games.

Happy enough with Saturdays test, gutted for TJP, surprised Fakatava isn't the injury cover but I guess there is a maximum of 1 Highlander allowed in this years ABs
