Tim, I had Chris Sigmund (deceased) formerly of CA make me a custom amp head with a field coil speaker setup. Then I called him and told him what I wanted in a Mic Preamp. I asked if he would use 6SN7 preamp octal tubes instead of 12 AX 7's and if he would put a variable impedance knob on it, a high pass filter, polarity switch, gain, level and output knobs with a 5 band EQ with bypass, and a true VU meter.. He made it and then he passed away and I have then only Mic Pre of this nature in the entire world and it is marvelous. God takes the great creators for some reason so we have to lock in to these things when we can. The amp is amazing too. He gave me the specs too and I believe the wiring diagram. Now I'm just an amateur player and song writer and I'm in a 4 piece band with 3 other writers etc. We are not musically trained, some say we are Train Wrecked. I don't care because every once in a while, magic happens and when it does it is glorious. We PAY to be able to play and record our songs over 200 or so at the moment. Of course no club will hire us as we do not play covers, and people have no interest in our creations. So they will die with us. Namaste, Edward William Case

I used to work with Joey and Dave Friedman at Andy Brauers Making music store in North Hollywood in the early 90s. Dumble used to come by periodically and hang out for hours and do exactly what Joey said he would watch you play. Little
did I know what was going on in his Mind in terms of how he would design an amp for a person. I once went down to pick up a used Dumble for my boss who was buying one. I had a chance to spend a few hours down in Newport Beach playing through this amplifier. If I had owned that amplifier, I’m certain it would’ve changed my approach to playing the guitar it was one of the most beautiful sounds. I’ve ever heard in my life to this day.
Above all else, Alexander, which is what he preferred to be called by that certain point, was a very nice gentle and kind man.
I remember you too, Tim coming by. Fairly frequently as I recall also. You actually allowed me to go on some sessions with you to be an observer for which I will ever be appreciative. Glad to see you having so much success with your YouTube channel, sir. Cheers.

Howard was from Bakersfield California…My sis went to high school with him. Several bands had his amps when he first began…He later rebuilt a Princeton for me when he lived off Edison Highway in East Bakersfield…

Boy, you really nailed that first Santana tone. That album is etched in by brain for ever. The band i was in performed several covers from that album back in the day (1972) and 'Black Magic Woman" was one of them. Santana was SO hot back in those days, everyone loved them. People even loved OUR Santana songs ! ( I only heard Peter Green's original version of his song years later .... love it too !! Santana honored him immensely.) VERY good demo of that Dumble too .... one of the best i've viewed. It's SO frustrating to watch one of these, knowing that i'll never be able to play on one, much less own one.

As some one that plays thrash/death Metal with a JCM 800. I love the sound of this amp in all its glory. Thanks for sharing this with us! Cheers

I spoke to Howard Dumble in 1986 or 1987- He provided me a bank account number and I would need to send him $2000. And I quote" maybe in 3 or 4 years I will contact you for the additional $2000 and then build you an amp. I decided to not proceed with this strange arrangement. Fast forward years later and I did hear he became a recluse survivalist and aledgedly had taken advantage of a large amount of guitarists' down payment, no amps were made and no refunds were returned.

This is, without a doubt, the best content you've ever put out. Dumble WAS the Rembrandt of the guitar amp world, bar none. I too have experience with these amazing creations...works of art for certain...priceless, if tone is what you

So clean even with distortion . He use to have a shop in Santa Cruz briefly. I bought a Fender Champ amp form him it was my first. It wasn' t modified . This was just a random encounter through the Buy and Sells . This was in the late 60's or early 70's . Had no idea what he was making or doing at the time or who he would become.

I must say, That is the Best sounding Dumble I've heard. That said, I've been blessed to have played MANY Dumble's, Trainwrecks, etc. I've been buying & selling Vintage (Everything) since 79' ( When "Burst" were $1, 500 ! ) Synths, cars, horns, ect. Mainly to get the best gear possible, I'm a Performing musician. MOST Dumble amps sounded brittle or kinda harsh. They are ALL different. Personally Trainwreck amps, ALL Sound great. & some of those, Sound impossibility unreal ! ( NO Master volume ) just go from sparkling clean W/the volume of your guitar low to 10 & UNREAL Sustain ! with all the character of that guitar & you. I met Ken, & his prices were aprox the same as Dumble. ( I didn't know he was sick.) & there would be no more. & Now, their the price of a House !! Sooo, Whatever you do, Tim. DONT Bond with one. The gears in your head will start justifying Crazy things.... Just saying.

I may be mistaken, but BMW I thought was recorded by Carlos with a modified Fender amp by Randall Smith which was the beginning of Mesa Boogie. I played Boogies for years. They are remarkable tone monsters. My favorite was the Coliseum which was 180 or 200 watts, endless headroom and tone.

That Strat sound at the end was gorgeous! The chime on the final notes *chef's kiss*.

Although the amp sounds amazing I get the feeling you can play through an old transistor am radio and still sound pretty awesome . The Santana cover was amazingly perfect . Tone vibrato execution all perfect.

Love this and my old friend Joey B. I lived in North Hollywood for 14 years in the late 70s thru early 90's and remember seeing Howard in his shop in the Alley rehearsal studio. Bought my first Boogie from Randall Smith in 76 and still use it nearly every week. I don't think we ever met, but we have a bunch of mutual friends and traveled in some of the same circles in those days. Love your work and videos!

Alex Dumble was a genius. So was Ken Fischer with the Trainwreck amps. I’ve never played a Dumble but I had the honor of playing the last Trainwreck Ken ever made. It made even my playing sound heavenly.

Sir Tim, your videos are simply the very best in the industry. Your style to educate people is open, honest and without diva- style acting. You and Mr. Bonamassa teach wanna be guitarists (like me) honorably and with the best possible attitude. Thanks for that. Best greetings from Finland.
