Thanks for the information. Always tune into videos as soon as I can. Awesome to hear it’s a great balance work/outside life. Makes me even more interested in the critical care speciality. Keep up the good work, look forward to seeing more videos.

Thanks for the really informative video! Three question areas where I would really appreciate your insight:

During the 14 hour night shifts, are you able to sleep and be on-call within the hospital... or are you up and working all night? In either case, how is recovering from those night shifts? Are older physicians okay making the transition between night and day, or do most leave the profession / move away from such a schedule at a relatively young age (if so, what are the options for someone who wants to keep practicing without doing a 7 day stretch of nights every month)?

Do you ever have the opportunity to have stretches of longer than 7 days off? ie if you want to do a 10 day+ international vacation, is that feasible?

Is it possible to scale back ie to do 7 days on and then 14 off?

Thank you for the info. MS4 here.

1. Do you have a non-compete clause as an Intensivist?
2. Can you work another job as an Intensivist?
*For example: Intensivist + part-time outpatient medicine/ community medicine ?

What are some limitations in your contract that you wish you knew before pursuing this specialty?

Hi Eddy, thank you for your videos and replying to all the questions and comments. I also find your videos very realistic, you are not trying to play a hero who saved the world.
I am a first year critical care fellow, will be graduating in 2020 but I am already looking for jobs, preferably in Florida.
My question is: when signing for a job what is the reasonable number of patients for intensivist to cover by himself and what about when you have mid level provider in a team?

Great video as usual. What journals do you read ? how to you organize the literature you read ? any favorite app or software ? I am also wondering if your schedule looks like a 7 on 7 off ? if so, thats amazing !!

Thanks for the video, it was very helpful! I would like to know if there is a Neuro fellowship after studying critical care? Or would you think that a better option for someone who is more interested in Neuro is to study neurology then critical care?

Regarding Intensivist lifestyle, it sounds similar to a Hospitalist with 7 days on, 7 days off. Are you ever able to be flexible with these days? For example, you'd like to take a 2-week vacation abroad or have family matters to attend to? Obviously, I understand that you'd have to make-up those 2 weeks one way or another. Would this be possible as an Intensivist, or does it simply depend on the group you become a part of (private versus academic versus other)?

so, you have 170 24-hour shifts per year (or 18-hour shifts?). That's pretty big number. Or do you coun't 24-hour shift as 2 days (p.m.+a.m.)? Sorry, maybe i missed your explanation.
Btw, thanks for your videos.

Thanks a lot for this great video. Someone told me that most of the hospitals make you work 14 shifts a month (7 days and 7 nights), is that correct? can you please comment on night schedules in most hospitals?
