I was asked on my Instagram why I decided to pursue critical care as a specialty. In this video, I tell why I went to medical school, picked internal medicine residency and chose to be an intensivist.

I am on my surgery rotation right now and I’m shocked at how much I’m enjoying the procedures but when I got to the ICU I enjoyed it even more, I think because it intergrates more medical management. I won’t jump into my life story but I realized maybe I can get more procedural “hands on” care in with IM and critical care! (I’ve always wanted to do IM especially for global health reasons) Thank you so much for sharing because your video reinforced what I’ve been thinking about!

I'm a MS1 currently discerning specialties and found your video incredibly honest and impactful. I have been watching a lot of other critical care vids and your explanation for why you chose critical care feels spot on to some of my interests: procedures, general body knowledge, and working with family and discussions at EOL. Many thanks for this!

I'm a sonographer and a new subscriber with you :)
In the specialty I work in, we get a lot of residents, but I usually only get them for a day or two. I do like to ask them if they have a direction they'd like to follow, so I can pack as much intensive teaching as possible into the short time they have with me. I think this may be one reason there's pressure to choose a path earlier on?

I think this is good. You should promote it to young people who are around 17 and starting to think about their futures.

I love that your love affair with intensive care started in the wild west of Cooper (aka the CCU) :)

Is the compensation for critical care the same as an IM hospitalist? are the hours the same or better in CC?
