Anybody who has played these guitars knows: you can't compare their necks. They have a vastly different shape and feel. Wizard necks are very specific, and the Soloist, while thin, isn't anywhere near Wizard-thin. They share a lot of features, but they are completely different guitars when played against each other. For similar price, you're really getting a unique guitar with each model. This needs to be kept in mind.

I own a prestige and an MIJ Dinky.. they are both awesome! very hard to pick which is better. you couldn't go wrong with either!!

Although the Jackson doesn't have stainless steel frets, the used market for this guitar is so much cheaper and becomes a much bigger deal compared to this specific ibanez which is still new and in my opinion, too expensive. I can get that same Jackson for 1200-1800 used while I can't find much with the new Ibanez. The newer MIJ Jacksons are truly amazing. I have the 2020 RRT Rhoads and it's on par with my USA Jackson. It's that good

That's a poor man's PIA basically almost all the same features and till this day I don't understand why the J custom does not have stainless steel frets but this one does

True. No stainless steel, no go for me. I’ll probably get the Ibanez next month.

This JB TB-4 from Seymour Duncan is interesting: it eats the half of the distortion and harmonic content, but gives you a very round sound, focused and bassy...that sounds very evil and powerful for metal, like a wall of sound. It comes as a default option in the USA Kelly 2, and with the right setup could sounds like Marty Friedman.

Most people will never play a guitar enough hours or own it long enough to wear out a set of frets.

Just get an rg550 and be done with it - perfect guitar

I'd choose the RG and swap out for passive pickups. Maybe a High output bridge and a sustainiac in the neck. Put the on/off switch and the 3 sustain switch where that voicing switch already is. You can still use the 9v battery cavity too.

I am in love with this RGR5130 since Ibanez announced it especially in this swampy green color, probably getting it very soon. I have an RGR5221, the orange one, but the fixed bridge is not really my thing, and there is no other guitar (Ibanez) with floating bridge right now that matches with it, except this.

Gotta say, that would be a very tough choice for me, because both guitars are very good. I'd probably pick the RG just because of the look.

I have been waiting for this review! It would be hard to choose. I have been An Ibanez man for a long time. I also have owned a few Jacksons in my time, and they were also great. I like the fact that you get an HSC with the Ibanez. I would honestly have to spend some time playing both to make my decision.

You should add Charvel in that list. I was struggling with all the other guitars before i started to play with Charvel.

I would choose the RGR5130.
1. The bridge, never played an edge. Would like to know how it compares firsthand to a floyd.
2. Alder is.... a very annoying tone wood to balance. The very flat response makes everything very mushy and boomy.
3. The color! That Khaki and grey look sexy af!

That Ibanez looks like the Zach Huston custom... which is awesome.. because his guitar is one of the best looking customs of all time!

I like Ibanez. But volume knob position sucks. I have rg 7 string now. My picking hand hurts sometimes.

I wish that RGR5130 had a 7 string version in that gray.

I bought the Jackson some weeks ago an I've sent it back. I just wasn't convinced by it. I hated the Gotoh bridge. I'd chose the Ibanez over the Jackson.

I’d go Jackson between these two, though I personally wouldn’t buy either of these models. Great guitars, either way.

Great comparison and funny that you choose these 2 guitars to compare, fine instruments offcourse. I have to go for the Ibanez and thats is purely because I own a lot of last couple of years prestige series, especially the 5000 series ones. My 5000 series guitars are all phenomenol, they can easily compete with Jackson USA series, besides the specs but most and foremost QC wise, all my Ibanez prestiges came in perfect out of the box, couple small tweaks but those were personal preferences. The one you reviewed, the 5130m is on my GAS list for couple of weeks now. I also understand that Ibanez spec wise is not for everyone (neck shape, bridge system, Active pups, heritage). But still now if you want a great guitar with all the great specs and great QC and still a reasonable price ( Jackson USA, Japan ESP, PRS USA, Caparison, are all lots more expensive). Long story short the Ibanez prestige these days, is production guitar wise, best bang for the buck
