Unfortunately Doc Martens used to be much better quality, hence versions from the 70s and 80s still looking great. They used to be make in the UK but moved to cheaper overseas manufacturing and there are loads of complaints about them lasting way less time now. The factory that used to make DMs still makes boots, under the label Solovair, and they look so similar to DMs so I would suggest buying them instead

If you want doc martens I highly recommend getting a pair of solovairs instead. They are a little bit pricier, but better quality, and since they are made with a proper Goodyear welt (unlike docs) they can be resoled. My docs have a crack in the sole and a cobbler refused to resole them for me because docs heat fuse the soles to the shoes. Solovair also sells replacement soles for pretty cheap. If you want the look of docs but you want your shoes to actually last a lifetime, get soloviars

I got my red poncho because of your influence, Caroline. It was so cheap and easy to thrift and I think it is made with wool (at least it's a little bit itchy). It's also great when you work on a desk and want to feel cozy

1st off, I’m old. I own a pair of 45 year old Doc boots. I swear by them! ETA, the bubble skirts can actually be easily transformed to a non bubble skirt which would extend the trend into a much longer lasting item.

re: Paloma Wool. I have a lot of items from them because I used to be obsessed and sadly have to report that the quality is often rlly poor - loose threads, unravelling hems, thin and see through fabrics. I would only really recommend their knitted pieces!

My Mary Jane Docs are a staple in my wardrobe and the COMFIEST pair of shoes i own. I 100% recommend buying them 2nd hand or wear them around at home to break them in 1st. Mine were hand-me-downs from my little sister and I'm so happy she gave them to me vs selling or donating them

while paloma wool has many pieces that can def be replaced with vintage options, I can recommend them as a brand to buy from! I bought a longsleeve from them like two-ish years ago and it was and still is my dream shirt, so totally worth trying if you really love something by them <3

Loafers! The ballet flat thing just does not float in my opinion, just like they didn't back in 2010s or whenever it was when they were a staple in office or church wear. Sorry, I'm just old enough to have not cool associations with them, and I think they look disproportionate and childlike in a not good way. Loafers are the way; so much more substantial, sophisticated, and versatile.
