Are you fed up with those unsolicited phone calls from companies trying to sell you something or offering you an opportunity that should not be missed?
There is something you can do to reduce the calls and help protect others:
Introducing the Telephone Preference Service
The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a UK registry where individuals can opt out of receiving unsolicited sales or marketing calls.
Sign up for the telephone preference service
• You can register your phone number for free (both landline or mobile)
• It can take up to 28 days for full-service activation
So what happens if you have signed up and calls still occur?
You can act and report the callers to do so
• Note the company name, phone number, and call date and time
• Or by telephone on 0303 123 1113
Companies that do not comply with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) by contacting registered individuals can face significant penalties. The UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) enforces the regulations, and businesses may be fined up to £500,000 for making unsolicited marketing calls to TPS-registered numbers. Repeated violations can damage a company’s reputation and lead to further legal consequences.
Why reporting matters
All reports help protect vulnerable Dorset residents from scams, including
• Fake personal alarm services
• Unnecessary home improvements
• Nuisance calls
The more people report, the easier it becomes for authorities to
• Identify and stop rogue companies
• Prevent financial exploitation of vulnerable people
• Safeguard our community’s well-being
