fact number 42 is actually true! usually when someone is smiling during the class the teacher thinks that they aren't concentrated enough or they are distracted by something. when this happens teachers usually say something like that: "what's so funny? share with the class".

You forgot about Arkhipov, a nuclear missile submarine officer, who decided not to launch, while the remaining two officers did. But all 3 officers agreement to launch was needed.

Weirdly I knew most of this, my Russian teacher in high school didn't just teach the language we learned about history and culture

My friend had a Bear skin hat from Russia; it was slightly warm at room temperature, and even when it was below freezing temperatures, your head felt warm and toasty. If you live somewhere extremely cold, I don't see fur as an issue. I disagree with mass-producing fur for something pointless, like fashion, but someone using it to survive is fine.

Laika (the space dog) handled the launch and weightlessness fine. But the cooling systems on the craft either malfunctioned or were insufficient and she died from heat exposure.

More interesting facts about Stanislov Petrov, He wrote the protocol for responding to an attack by the US, And he wasn’t even supposed to work that day, he was filling in for someone else.

You also need to include that 3rd person in a Russian nuclear attack submarine during Cuban Missile Crisis of 1963 who voted against launching a nuclear missile on basis of some shady intel while other 2 officers authorized it.

When I was a kid in Sydney Australia, we got a dog from the pound. That dog would frequently run away, go up to our local railway station and catch a train. He would always get off at either Penshurst or (the next stop) Hustville stations.

5:20 "12 women accused of cannibalism. None of them denied it."
So says the trustworthy accounts of the Soviet justice system.

About russian vodka, the main brand produced during the times of the USSR, and I assume it continued after, had its bottle with a cap designed so cheaply that you had to break it to open it, making it impossible to close after being open. It was considered an insignificant issue since it was expected that the average drinker would finish the bottle in one go anyway, similar to soda cans in the west.

To this day I don't know why there's not a Stanislav Petrov Day celebration each year.

My grandmother survived the siege of Leningrad (or as it's known in russian the blockade of Leningrad). She was Ukrainian but was serving in the soviet army as an electrical engineer in WW2. Some 80 years later last year the russians attacked my hometown in Ukraine encircling it and cutting off all the supplies. My elderly mom who was there at the time assured me she would be fine because my grandma taught her how to survive starvation...

Am russian and it's first I'm hearing about empty bottles on the table. The most popular superstition is that when you packed all your things and is ready to go on your travels, right before you go out you have to stop and sit down and wait for a minute, otherwise you gonna bring up bad luck on you and some unfortunate thing will happen for sure like the plane will fall, the car will crash etc.

My girlfriend Is from Russia, the smiling thing is true. More important is you never ever smile at strangers on the street. If a stranger smiles at you on a chances are you're going to be assaulted or robbed in some way, so be wary.

You say that the “regime lets them die” as if you had forgotten the city was besieged and surrounded by the most advanced army of the time while it penetrated into the biggest country in the world with remarkable speed and ease. They did more miles just on russia alone than from Paris to Warsaw (side to side of the whole Europe)
