This is a big problem in central asia, everybody has been force fed starvation protocol their entire lives thinking it's normal. (Rice+bread+vegetables) with nearly no protein, you end up with majority of the population being skinny fat diabetics

This is exactly why I do calisthenics and compound heavy lifts + mixed martial arts while eating in a bulk to lose my skinny fat physique and become like Leon Edwards and Mario Rios.

Revival Fitness also talks about this a lot, and you both are indeed 100% correct. People like Greg Doucette saying that if you don’t have abs then you are fat, are just making body dysmorphia more and more common in the fitness industry

You can really do both. If you bulk youre gonna be fat, if you cut youre gonna make good beginner gains and have the best basis for a bulk. Unless the slow progress in the gym is demotivating

I was skinny fat 7 months ago...
I had a 21.5 Bmi but I had a big belly and small arms and shoulders... I started to focus on building my shoulders and back first.. then my arms.. after 5 months I was 100 times better looking than I was before

As a fellow former skinn fat 100% agree. Naturally don't go on a crazy 500, 600+ calories bulk (this is clear madness, you will end up with way more body fat that you should put to get those muscles), but rather 150 or 200 kcal. Another crucial factor is your strength. You need to do at least 1 rep more than a week ago (or than a previous trening sesion, if you work out for example in 5, 8 or 10 days traing pattern). Ideally you should perform excersie in a range let me say 6-10 reps and if you managed to do this 10 rep simply increase the weight that you work out with.
