How to replace a leaking tub faucet, also known as a shower diverter. You don't need to live with a leaking bathtub spout. In this video I'll demonstrate how to replace a tub faucet / diverter so you'll get full water pressure to the shower head again.

Excellent video. Great tip in trying to buy as close to original as possible. I bought something that looked identical and found out the universal fit wasn't so universal so returned it to get another one with the slip on assembly like the one in your video. One thing I noticed with the new and even my old spout is there is some water dripping from the back of the spout. I took the old one apart and mounted just the plastic assembly to study where the back flow is coming from and discovered there is leakage around the plastic assembly. Oddly this happens even with the new assembly which has fresh O rings. So I wrapped plumbing tape around the plastic assembly covering the O rings and then wrapped plumbing tape around the copper pipe. It's a little tight so had to wiggle it in and voila. No more dripping from back. I also put duct tape to cover up the bottom half of the pipe cutting a notch in the tape for the pipe and added a rubber band so if there's any leakage inside this will wick the water away so it doesn't seep behind the walls causing water damage and mold.

Your video was the only one I found that mentions cleaning up the supply pipe prior to slipping on the replacement spout. My new spout was very resistant when replacing. I was thinking either a wire brush or something. Thanks for including the details.

If done this way you can still swivel the spout left and right even with the screw tight. Not good with kids around.

If that’s a DANCO brand, which it looks like, it’s a terrible design. I’ll never buy their garbage again.
