Something that I didn't think about on the initial watch...blind comparisons like this are EXCELLENT tools for learning what tool you would use in certain situations. That's so cool!

the obvious difference is the sustain in high frequency. the solid bodied one is definitely ringing longer in clean tone.

I didn't even guess. I was spot on, because I heard exactly what I expected.
Guitar 1 = Sound is warm, mellow and rich, sustaining notes overlap the player's touch, making a rather roomy sound.
Guitar 2 = Sound is clearer, crispy and bright, sustaining only as much as the player wants.

Verdict = I've always loved the Semi-hollow, especially the Gibson ES-335

Got it right!! Have never played a hollow body so I could just tell from the fact that the hollow body had a different tone than what I am used to. Sorry for the lack of descriptive words!!

Wow - great video. I was expecting a much more pronounced difference. I guess some of that is what you hear when you are sitting and playing the instrument (hearing and feeling some of the acoustic differences). They both sounded great to my ears, and pretty similar.

I love the hollow body more. It sounded sweeter and seem to have more overtones. I did get it right this time. 😀😀 great comparison. Thank you.

The delightful air, resonating resonance and fine frequency clarity made it difficult for me to choose. As with many shootouts I was wrong again. I need to sit in the corner and practice listening now. 🤣 Excellent work as usual bro!

I got it right, I found the Casino sounded just a tad darker but at the same time airier with the resonance of the body and the other strings being notable. Saying that, there really wasn't as big of a difference as I expected from these two guitars

Thanks for comparing these two. I have the same Revstar and a D'Angelico DC Boardwalk with P90s. Always wondered what a Mini Boardwalk would bring to the table. So in a way this video gave me a good idea. Off topic question to you Joey: Anything you use to rub/polish your Revstar's top to hide its matte finish? I noticed yours is more shiny and I don't like the playing marks mine gets from where my hand makes contact with the body of the guitar.

Yup I guessed it. I could hear the semi hollow resonance of the Epi. The Yamaha P-90s have more clarity but also I find them uniquely distinctive sounding compared to other brands P-90 versions and fairly easy to pick put of a comparison. I'd love to own a RS502 even over my PRS SE with a neck P-Rail. Still not sure what bridge to go with so I'll go watch your video on that :)

I'm a beginner at guitar, but with headphones it's an easy tell.

Edit: For me, there was a clear "more acoustic" sound from the jump. I also already knew about which would be puncher and which would lose nore sound due to it's materials

Interesting factoid: the "Bridge Pickup Clean" section reminded me of a Needtobreathe song called The Reckoning, which was definitely done on a solid body...but your hollow body sounds so grainy and much cooler through this section!

I guessed correctly but I suspect that in the room the difference is quite pronounced; online through YouTube compression and a computer speaker they sounded similar but the giveaway was the high mids from the Yamaha. Did they sound more distinctive live?

anyone knows what kind of a guitar is red special (Brian May) like is it solid or semi hollow, I want a guitar that sounds exactly like his

Guessed it right early on. The hollow body sounds, well, hollow. The solid body sounded a bit louder with a bit more punch across the range. Thanks for the video.

Nice comparison. I guessed it right. Both sounded lovely but the #2 just sounded richer and that made me think that it was the Yamaha because it would surely have nicer pickups than the epiphpne.

There wasn’t a huge difference to my ears however the Yamaha still sounded better

I rather stick to my Epiphone 339 semi-hollow guitar!
