The part about death is from Epicurus' "Letter to Menoeceus", in wich Epicurus explains to his pupil the reason why man should not fear death. When we are here, death is not, when death comes, we are gone.

I don’t remember where I heard this. But a guy says that he believes that anytime you had the chance to die at some point in your life, you did, but a different you doesn’t, so the the one that doesn’t lives on without ever knowing he has “died”. I don’t know how that plays into old age or young death, but it was interesting.
