Now when I shop I say in my mind
‘A fool and his/her money are easily parted.’ I enjoy looking and not buying. I’m minimising all aspects of Christmas this year, from gifts, to decorations and food. 😊 the only exception is giving to charity…I’m increasing that part.

In regards to sales my mantra is: “it’s not a bargain if you don’t need it.”

Xmas is when the best presents are sitting at the table and aren't laying under the tree, thanks so much Joshua and a wonderful time😊🎁🎆

My advent calendar is the book of Luke. My family and I read one chapter a day. By Christmas day we have come to learn Christ and his gift more each year.

Being on the autism spectrum I am SO glad we are minimalists come the holidays, because I do not do well with sensory overload. In our home we have one special candle holder in December and a lit wreath from the 30's that belonged to my late parents. It hangs in the front window.

It was my parents first Christmas married, during the Great Depression. Both were university students. Mother made Dad a shirt and Dad bought this wreath. Growing up it always hung in the upstairs window that faced the highway on the island we lived on. To me it sent a powerful message that denoted our home was a safe haven. I hope that message continues with me, each December when people see the kit red wreath.

And I do NOT like getting gifts. Not that I dislike someone giving me something I need during the year, but the sensory overload of seeing gift(S) stresses me out. Thankfully my family and friends share similar views, which makes the months of November to February pleasant.

On a side note, and I hope I word this ok, in the past when I would get a gift that I could not use and I would have to make the effort to find a thrift store in another town to donate the item, it felt as if I had not even gotten a gift.

And I also thought of the money wasted, buying me something I could not use. This is why REALLY knowing the person's needs/wants is so important.

And why during the year, if a family member or friend shares that there is something they could really use, I surprise them with a Visa gift card and a note 'Go buy that you told me about'.

Thank you for your earnest and kind thoughts. Our family is giving pre-loved, items, home baking, pool passes to kids, our own art. We really enjoy being outdoors so we love to go on group walks in the forest or at the beach. Winter picnics. Grateful for this.⭐️

Our Christmas tradition is that we drive down to Albany from Perth (Australia) to visit my brother which is a 6 hour drive and give one gift to each child. This year I’m giving hand made gifts. This is the highlight of the year.

My grandma use to give friends and neighbors oranges off her tree in the back yard for Christmas. I really love that ❤ the oranges were huge and everyone loved the oranges and did eat them. There were so many oranges that they would have went to waste on the ground if she didn't give people bags full.

👏🏾 1:21 👏🏾 1:46 👏🏾 2:25 👏🏾 thank you for this video. My husband and I decided 12 years ago to celebrate this time of year by dinner with our parents and continue to give where there’s a need throughout the year. No presents, trees, lights, etc. it’s stress free with no drama and unrealistic expectations. We are teaching our 8 yo what’s important in life. Everything in this video is 🎯

Your videos remind me a little of reading the book of Proverbs. Lots of rich, life wisdom. Thank you for your heart for God and people! ❤

I'm totally on board with you, Joshua. But I find that I've gone to the extreme end of things, to my and my family's hurt. Cutting to the bare minimum and obsessing over healthy eating (when you just want to splurge this ONE TIME) makes the holiday equally unenjoyable.

Thank you! I wish so many saw this video. I felt so sad when I heard a friend say she finished paying for Christmas presents in August. I feel so relieved to have been brought up so simply, no need to imitate the Romans with their lights, eating/drinking, gift interchanges.

Excellent advice! I've never believed in "the perfect Christmas" or "the best Christmas ever!" Too much pressure. I believe in a good Christmas, a nice Christmas, a festive Christmas, a peaceful Christmas, a relaxing Christmas, an exciting Christmas, and/or a holy Christmas.
