How to Bleed Radiators in a multi-zone gas heating system. Schematics included. Be gentle/gradual introducing city pressure to the system, always monitor boiler pressure.'

Steps:

1. Power off
2. If you have a zone valve, open (I don’t)
3. Close return ball valve (yellow)
4. Connect hose
5. Open hose (service valve)
6. Charge slightly with city pressure but monitor boiler pressure, 12-30 psi, in limits or else relief valve opens (city)
7. After bubbles, override off (city)
8. Close service valve (hose)
9. Open return ball valve (yellow)
10. Boiler back on

BEFORE PROCEEDING, TURN OFF YOUR BOILER. DO NOT LEAVE OVERRIDE VALVE TOGGLED STRAIGHT UP (FULLY ON) UNATTENDED; USE VALVE TO CHARGE SYSTEM GRADUALLY WITH CITY PRESSURE. MONITOR BOILER PRESSURE IN 12-15 PSI LIMITS TO AVOID RELIEF VALVE ACTIVATION, WHICH CAN SPILL WATER AND/OR DAMAGE BOILER

00:00 Schematic
00:26 Close return ball valve
00:32 Connect hose, link in description below
00:41 Open service valve
00:51 Apply city water pressure (monitor)
01:26 Bleed 5-10 minutes
01:51 Close city pressure and service valves
02:09 Disconnect hose
02:20 Bleed next system zone

I was fascinated by the spliced audio, dead air, quick cuts. Definitely a new way to finish a video. Kind of a "found footage" vibe. Thanks!

Thank you, this just helped me with noisy heat in my house. Great explanation and diagram.

I've done this a few times now, with thanks to Youtube guys like you. Easy peasy. But today, it went very slowly. No rush of water when opening the filler valve, no fast flow from the hose; kind of slow, with little bursts of bubbles every 10 seconds or so. Just a steady dribble otherwise. Nothing at all like in the past. I'm thinking that the feed pressure regulator (which is, after all original equipment, about 40 years old) is defunct.

I only get heat on the first level and none of the second and third level I have baseboard heat but they don’t have a bleeders on them. Do you think I need to bleed the whole system first from the boiler? Or could that be something else? Also I have a radiator in the hallway ont he second level that heats up but nothing else..

What if you don't have a shut off valve for each zone? Also, you say turn the zone on, would that be with the mechanical lever on th zone valve itself or by turning up your thermostat and seeing that the zone is on by the Tako box(I think that's what it's called)

Question: Whats the difference between the 'Boiler Feed Water Pressure Regulator' & the feed water fill valve? Dont the parts look the same/similar? It has the little metal lever that u can control with your finger. Are they the same part or different?

My PRV is still blowin off at 30 psi after changing exp tank make up valve tridicator and HW coil on a 2 zone 2 story Burnham oil fired boiler. What am i missing? Could air in system be the cause?

don't you have to check the pressure afterwards to make sure you haven't overfilled the system resulting in high pressure?

I needed to drain my entire system to remove a downstairs radiator. Once I reinstall, is it possible to bleed out the system one radiator at a time using the bleeder valves on them? I don't have all of the hose bibs in for draining in my basement that you do.

When you say, "cut the boiler off, " do you mean the circulation pump or the actual boiler? How do you cut the boiler off?

The water shouldn't travel through the boiler then, so the next nearest valve in the line right?
