What really worries me about the report on the top 400 odd taxpayers is that they'll use that to somehow justify increased tax for the next several hundred thousand taxpayers!

Thanks god NZ has people like Peter Jackson, Michael Hill, Bob Jones & John Key. Have bought so much value to the county. Why would you want to dissuade people like that doing business in NZ. Plus, the truth is people like that actually pay more TOTAL tax than anyone.

Realised income ≠ income
Realised income should always be taxable. And increase in assets prices can be considered income, sure. But isn’t taxable until it becomes realised.

Why can't you reveal the elephant in the room here?
Fractional Reserve Lending!
FTL is continually eroding the value of the currency, making it look like capital investments are appreciating but mostly they are not.
Come on explain this to us!

Key Hill Jackson and Jones all came from nothing worked hard took risks and succeeded if Hill had failed would David Parker be envy of him nope. So let's look at countries that there leaders were envious of success Hitler didn't like Jews because they were successful Starlin didn't like successful farmers so took there land of them Mao didn't like educated successful people so did the great leap forward (more like backwards) all those leaders cost their countries dearly. So let's say Labour now target successful people would Peter Jackson keep his wealth here in NZ creating jobs for creative people who can learn and go and then work for other international film companies nope he would sell up and say the US offers me more opportunities thanks NZ. We want wealth here and rewarded for their enterprise and risk. Cause if not other countries will chase them. Look at Elon Musk left California shifted his whole operation to Texas why predominantly less Tax as California has one of the highest taxes in the US

Most house owners with capital gains are effectively paying less tax just like the weathy ones anyway and when the house value drops, they all pay higher tax. I bet the report don't point this out.
