I think this entire case is a lot simpler than most people think. If you take all the sensational religious aspect away, what you have is two people who wanted to be together at any cost. We have a woman who didnt want to be a mother, she didn't want to be "tied down". She wanted to be free, she wanted this fairytale like life she dreamed up in her head.
They had to kill Tammy to free up Chad, and they had to kill Charles because they knew they would never get away with killing the children as long as Charles was around. As a bonus, Lori thought they would come into all this money to live their fairy-tale life (from Charles's life insurance). Once Charles was out of the way, there was no other parent in the way of them getting rid of the kids. They didnt need to kill Colby or Chad's kids, as they were adults living their own lives... they weren't "in the way" of their life together.
I even question the cause of Lori's brothers death. Seems like they may have used him to do their dirty work, and when they thought he might crack and talk to the cops, he also needed to go.
