There's an amazing book about this Emperor called "Julian", written by the legendary Gore Vidal, and an also magnificent comic called "Apostate". To be honest, it's absolutely a shame that a great movie about Julian's life doesn't exist (being the only exception a 1919 lost silent film made in Italy), considering how important he is in the story of Rome

St. Augustine in City of God claims that Julian sought out an oracle who told him to burn all his supply ships during his war in Persia and that this led to Julian and the entire army getting killed. That's probably apocryphal but it's definitely funny.
