Before you call Mario evil, keep in mind he's fending off actively hostile invaders, here.

Mario only attacks when provoked, and is otherwise friendly. We've seen him regularly and peacefully interact with non-combatant Koopas and Goombas in the past, like Koopa The Quick in Mario 64, and Goombette in Mario Odyssey. Hell, he even helps Bowser Jr. when the kid comes to him under a truce in Bowser's Fury.

If you want to blame someone, blame Bowser, who keeps initiating these needless conflicts!

Mario spares one of them, Desperately hoping that one would get the message, but they don’t, they continue to serve a mad turtle who only cares from himself and his legacy, Mario fought for love and hope, and yet everywhere he went all he spread was death, and so he desperate spares one, hoping that they can convince others to not join the mad kings side, but they never learn, they never change, this is what happens when a unstoppable force meets an unmovable obstacle, or rather on this case, a unchangeable idea. Young goombas, good goombas, fight and die for a uncaring tyrant. Brainwashed into fighting, And Mario is forced to fight, and so the cycle of violence continues, for ever, and always, for as long as good men standby and watch as innocent minds are twisted and turned, the bloodshed will never stop. May the stars have mercy on our souls.
