Poor grey partridges have to go into a ball of feathers to keep warm in -30C temperatures. They look like a strong wind would just roll them across the prairie fields!
Partridges lay the biggest clutches of any birds, with 14 to 15 eggs the norm and even bigger clutches often recorded.
