As a catalan, I can confirm that we were a country for 8 seconds 😎

Best part is that it wasn't the only time Catalunya had a short lived independence. In 1641 it was independent from Spain for 6 days to be vassal of France. It went back to Spain after 9 years.
Later, during the Succession Wars, it tried to be independent under UK protection.
Later, it became again independent for 3 years (1810-1812) under Napoleon's protection, then was annexed to France for two more years and went back to Spain in 1814.
Later, after the republican triumph in the Spanish Local elections of 1931 and the King exiled, Catalunya declares independence and promoted the creation of the iberian confederation (so, independent for 4 days).
And LATER declared independence AGAIN in 1934 for less than a day, since the whole catalan government ended up arrested.

You can say catalans are persistent.
