I love this little ‘what if’ sort of scenario and the way they show Ryze resolving it because it sort of gives him an ‘out’ if you will. Ryze is tired, he’s been doing this for so long and it’s a thankless duty that drains more from him every day, just to stop people from using the world runes. But here is something entirely unrelated, the darkin war, that has nothing to do with them. He could maintain his mission while still not interfering, and he could find peace without sacrificing his morals by just letting the Darkin destroy the world. In a way, he kind of gets the same arc that Aatrox does- but whereas Aatrox ultimately craves that oblivion, Ryze ultimately stands strong and reaffirms that it’s more than just about guarding the world runes, it’s about believing that Runeterra deserves to be protected, no matter the cost.
