It's really crazy how time flies. After the disappointment of the black album [relative to its predecessor], and then this... I thought to myself -- 'how much worse can this mix of metal and pop get...?' Ultimately, I accepted that bands will go on to explore other stuff, other emotions, and that anything else will likely result in boredom and stagnation, as well as burnout for the band members.

I am now 15 years older than James was in 1997. The nostalgia for the era of the first four albums is still strong with me. A time when they were at their peak.
