Saw them at the Monsters of Rock tour. It was 35 years ago. Kingdom Come, Metallica, Dokken, Scorpions and Van Halen headlined. 12 hour concert for $25 bucks. Concert shirt wss $10. It was 1986 and i was 17. God i miss those days. Saw them in Buffalo at Rich Stadium.

I can see why many older fans hated MetallicA when you see this band start a song like this. I mean, it looks kind of silly among songs like... I don't know, name it, from 'Creeping Death' to 'Ain't My Bitch' (even though the old-old fans wouldn't even like that), with all the pissy raging, into something deeper and more heartfelt like 'Hero of the Day'. - I get it... But this is just a beautiful and powerful song and if you can't appreciate that you're not human in my opinion. You can't be a pissed off Metalhead forever. The Metal is supposed to give you relief like a therapy and sometimes it's time to grow and get into different music and emotions. - If anything, Metal taught me about emotion and expression, so... Songs like 'Hero of the Day' are part of that as well. I'm just glad that MetallicA didn't keep repeating themselves or let themselves get bullied into staying the same, which probably would've made for very cliché and dull Metal records. - The Load-albums might not be the best as a whole, regardless of the style, but they have great tracks, which frankly could've made one better album.

This works really well live. I remember this day, first Metallica gig of probably 10 and counting. It was fucking loud. Its a shame outdoor gigs are so quiet now. Stupid lame laws. Cheers Tony Blair, how rock and roll of you.
