Details on U.S. retaliatory strike against Iranian-backed militants in Iraq

The Pentagon says it successfully launched retaliatory strikes against Iranian-backed militia groups in Iraq. The strikes come in response to a drone attack on a military base in northern Iraq that wounded three American service members. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin has more on the U.S. strikes that hit three sites and likely killed multiple militants, according to U.S. Central Command.

For starters, perhaps, We should be informed on why American forces are still in Iraq? Are they there in the northern Kurdish controlled areas assisting with training and security? What are their rules of engagement? Doesn't that include the right of self defense? It shouldn't come to a point where one of our servicemembers is killed or in critical condition before responding to any attack. And if they can't act in a way to robustly protect themselves, then perhaps they shouldn't be there.
