US launches retaliatory strikes in Iraq and Syria | BBC News

The US has launched strikes on targets in Syria and Iraq in response to Sunday's drone attack on a US military base that killed three soldiers.

These strikes are the beginning of the US retaliation to a drone strike on a US military base in Jordan on Sunday by Iran-backed militants.

Officials have said the US is planning military action over a number of days against targets in Iraq and Syria, the BBC's US partner CBS News reported.

Three US soldiers were killed and more than 40 personnel injured in a drone attack at a US base called Tower 22.

Iran denies involvement, calling the accusations "baseless" and saying it was "not involved in the decision-making of resistance groups.”

Iran may or may not tone down their rhetoric in the near future, though.

The last time the US retaliated a plane load of Canadians and Ukrainians were shot out of the sky. Claimed as an inadvertent mistake by the Iranian guard. The Canadian government did nothing tangible, shook a fist, tutted, made a speech or two. Demanded compensation which turned out to be the same amount as if the plane had fallen from the sky by airlines insurance.
