I suffer with depression, and still the stoic idea of negative visualisation has had benefits for me. Anyone that compares it to the law of attraction, to my mind, doesn’t understand the concept of negative visualisation. I think theres a big difference between consciously engaging in stoic negative visualisation and mindlessly getting lost in negative thoughts. The two things are not the same.

On that note of law of attraction, Andrew if you haven’t you should read Happy by Darren Brown and also a book by Oliver Burkeman called the antidote both of which promote Stoicism. They basically dismiss the law of attraction ( mainly taking aim at the book The secret) and highlight that this kind of thinking actually can attract anxiety and depression. The argument being that the law of attraction is a beautiful idea however any lack of success is taken to be a lack of effort and therefore if those at the top deserve all there success then those at the bottom must deserve all there failure. And of course this simply isn’t true and completely avoids the importance of both luck (success doesn’t just depend on talent and effort), and tragedy (decent people can fail and deserve compassion ).Its the difference between being unfortunate to being a loser.

The speech bubbles in comics are set up to be read from top to bottom, not left to right.

I tend to think about what “could go wrong” around big things like work projects, road trips, major travel, or even hiking in a new location. I don’t linger on the negative but I think it has helped me prepare the best I can. I never have problems when I’m out in the big world and always have a backup plan.

Very important distinction, figure out what type of thinker you are.. THEN think that way that is most effective for you. So good to hear this, thanks

Cool video!
Btw, you should read comicbook conversation bubbles from top-down, not left-right :)

Stoicism is the best thing in my life. It opened my mind and told me "YOU CAN BE HAPPY! YOU CAN BE BETTER PERSON!"

as i understand the stoic way is, by thinking negative to SHOW that there is no negative (in the essence).
The Law of attraction: the stoic way of thinking negatively is not really thinking negatively, therefore you do not attract that. It is energy. Energy of: oh no, what will i do, poor me vs. meh..i'am alright.
The life happens for you, not with you. Always. How do you know that something is meant to happen to you and is? ..because it happens:)
good stuff!

Hey I got a question. I understand that the idea of effect of external factors shouldn't shake us mentally. And It perfectly sounds. However we humans are bound up into this world. How could I expect that things going around me doesn't bother me at all? Is there any meaning to exclude our view of points and behaviours from what's going in the universe? Isn't human beings and their characters belong to this world?

Fabulous words Mate. All that really matters is being able to deal with the negatives.
Positive is piss easy to deal with, its a natural ability.

I have a big question...

Do you think that people in more wealthy countries can perform stoicism easier since we more likely have more to be grateful about? Would appreciate the feedback I’m new to this!

Finally, someone who can think outside of society and beyond the logic of the modern age (murder is bad just because it’s bad). Well, then why is murder bad?? This question stumps the majority of our society today, but I’m glad someone has taken the time to look into these claims a bit further. I’ve thought it about quite a bit and am glad that you can articulate it so well.

well, this leaves out a whole lot of Latin people because we are damned near fatalists. Marcus was an exception.

Nice vids but you need to learn to read comics lol.... if the bubbles are roughly stacked onto one another they're meant to be read top-down.
