Electrician Matt looks at the wiring and connection in a single phase direct online started (DOL). In this video Matt explains how to connect the supply and the out going load (motor) within in a DOL starter. Matt also explains the wiring for the overload plus the connection for the internal stop and start buttons. This wiring diagram will help with level 3 electrical courses for both electrical apprentices, part time, full time learners as well as AM2, AM2S and AM2E.

With three phase do you just hard wire the neutral? Straight in overload then A2 then into motor?

Do it matter if line current goes to the stop switch before the start switch?

Have you tried on load? I tried with 5.5-8a thermal relay. I made the setting 5.5. Even though I draw 10 amps, the thermal did not break 95-96. I did the experiment by connecting a heater. (Omic circuit ?)

I’m confused. This is a 240V system. Doesn’t that mean that both incoming lines (your line and neutral) are each 120V? I need some clarification on how you are treating bot legs of 120V.

Isn't it better to use the Line from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 instead of the neutral from 3 to 4 to 5 to 6 ?
