Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease & Diet | Diets to Prevent and Reduce Severity of NAFLD

Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is the most common type of chronic liver disease worldwide, with much of its etiology due to insulin resistance, which can be a byproduct of dietary and lifestyle choices. In this lesson, we discuss diets and dietary selections that are associated with onset and increased severity of NAFLD, and we will also discuss diets that have been shown to help prevent and treat NAFLD.

I did my blood test yesterday after 5 weeks of 100% no carbohydrates no sugar no fruits no starch no red meat diet. My Liver panel test result shown AST, ALT, GGT level all perfect! Far from its top range. Just 5 weeks. My fatty liver is reversed to healthy normal. I lost 4-5kg just from dieting and stop eating after 7pm till next day lunch. 2 meals a day. Only boiled using water, steam Fish, tofu, cabbage broccoli veggies, chicken breast, black coffee no sugar for afternoon lunch and green tea no sugar during evening dinner not later than 7pm. After 7pm I fast till next day lunch 12pm. The fasting time is extremely important as this time allows digestion and some hunger which makes our body burn the fat within without exercising. Exercising barely able to reach the fat around our liver. So fasting is the effective way. I had No milk (contain high fat and high sugar) . No snacks. No all kind of bread which still are carbohydrates. No cake. No biscuits. No rice. No noodles. No fruits especially as it’s fructose are directly process only by our liver! Just 5 weeks and fatty liver is back to normal with proven liver function blood test compared to my previous test result 5 weeks ago. I feel very lively light and positive. I lost 5kg. Also My cholesterol and sugar level were also extremely good blood test result! I m looking way younger and my body is nicer too. I m 33 years old male. Non smoker non alcoholic. Didn’t work in a toxic environment. I didn’t exercise. But I ate much rice, fatty red meat, and milk and cookies and fruits. I slept late before. Now I kicked those bad habit n bad diet. After recovered from fatty liver, I continue my way of eating n fasting n sleeping time. I reintroduced some healthy carbohydrates back into my diet. Such as some corn carrot, some wheat bread, a little potatoes. Please make sure u do not overdo it. I really mean only some. Lack of discipline and taking it for granted will cause regrets. I’m sharing for mankind and for those who were helpless from useless doctors. And I’m sharing in memory of my late father who passed away due to end stage liver disease.

I was very surprised when my ALT came back 75. Putting that into context, I am a 22 female and have PCOS, is borderline obese, and my insulin resistance is crazy high. I have been on Metformin, but these results are definitely a wake-up call to start actively doing things to take care of my body. The prevalence of fatty liver is increasing in the United States, and to those people out there in the same situation, let's work on it together!

*Some real quick tips:*

- *Exercising regularly* is a great way to detox your body, and can help flush out toxins in the process! Stay away from sedentary activities like watching TV for hours on end or long stretches of sitting at work - you may not realize it but those things are slowly killing your liver!

- *Reduce sugar intake*

_Hope it helps!_

Having NAFLD, I can attest to everything presented here. Changing what I eat and staying away from high fat foods and losing weight helped the most. And there’s so much truth to the benefits of drinking coffee!!

My fatty liver disease is not due to meat at all but, mostly dairy, pastas and cream sauces. I do consume a lot of sugar. Thing is, I love vegetables too. I love healthy foods. I love Salmon! I am just addicted to ice cream. I need to start changing my diet because, I am in a lot of upper right quadrant pain.

My first sign of when my liver was in discomfort was after I had a large bowl of Pho (vietnamese beef noodle soup) with a vietnamese iced coffee. I felt some slight pain on the right side of my abdomen area. I thought it would just go away until finally the pain was unbearable I went to my doctor to get blood and ultrasound done. He told me I have fatty liver. I believe a combination of red meat and rice noodles (processed carbs) and iced coffee loaded with condensed milk (sugar) triggered the pain and caused inflammation. I wish I was one of those humans that can eat whatever and whenever they want and stay lean and healthy.

You uncovered data I was unable to find anywhere else despite my foolishly belief I was good at looking for adjunctive approaches to dealing with NAFLD. TY

I'm a carb-o-halic. Love my pasta, carbs, ice cream and fruits. Now I find out my way to eat is injuring my liver. I am trying to stop the wrong carbs. Stopped ice cream. I have finally lost 10 lbs. I am glad my hepatic blood tests have always been good. Ty for this video

This in conjunction with PCOS, I still need to stay away from too much caffeine.
Been consuming more raw tree nuts, raw berries and herbal teas in the morning.
A 2 tsp serving of water soaked ground flax seed once a day.

Non-sweet fruits, like: bell peppers, cucumbers, avocado and cantaloupe (which is sweet but high in protein)

As a woman, I still like my daily Greek yogurt.
I use unsweetened almond milk as needed and regular butter/olive oil blend.
If I do cook, I use EVOO & Coconut oil or Avocado oil.
More raw kale, beets, spinach, radishes, celery, ginger, garlic, turmeric, Pink Himalayan Sea salt.

No pork.
Transitioning into Turkey for beef, still a chicken fan.
Eating more shrimp and lean fish.
I've also been drinking 8oz water per 25lbs. Of total body weight.

I've lost over 60lbs since September 2021

I did a meal a day fast with a 48 hour fast on the weekends, Totally fixed my liver functions within a month, I started burning a pound a day until I was lightest I've been since middle school.
Now that I'm stable I have a little more lax system with three rules:
1. I will fast 48 hours once a week.
2. I will have one meal a day.
3. I will stick to a no carb/no sugar/strictly keto diet.
I am allowed to break one of those a week, but I will have to do the other two. Most weeks I only break rule 1 because 48 hour fasts are dreadful to me, so if I'm going to cheat my diet it would have to be a VERY special occasion but this system works out for me.

I have fatty liver disease and cysts on the liver, I’m here to get serious regarding a non alcoholic fatty liver diet. I feel very uncomfortable and have really bad indigestion. My vitamin D is rather high 120 due to vitamin D meds, my Dr said to cut back. This is an excellent video, thank you so much . 😉🇦🇺

Thank you for this interesting information. As a non-medic and someone who's just been diagnosed with nafld, this is just the type of information that I need that my doctor hasn't told me.

Hi,

This is very useful. But diet is little confusing it would have been better if in the end you would have summarized diets that we should follow and we foods we should avoid.
Thanks!

I have severe NASH and keto caused me severe stomach distress and liver pain as well as vomiting. I have tried to do keto over and over again. Just can't stomach it, literally. Gave it weeks, suffered terribly. Only lost 2 pounds. I'm here trying to find the best alternative. Going to give Paleo a shot, just going to use leaner cuts of meat.
