3090 GPU Red Light of Death Repair: The Ultimate Fix

preview_player
Показать описание
EVGA RED LIGHT OF DEATH is typically a shorted 12V power rail which is fixed by identifying the source of a short and dealing with it one way or another.
In this case it was a dead driver mosfet, replacement of which has solved the problem.

Resources and much more are available on Discord.

Thank you NWR! I didn't think GPUs were really repairable until I found your channel. Thanks again!

It’s a shame that EVGA got out of the GPU market. That’s all I would buy up until my 3090ti. They had great cards but the customer service was the best!

I enjoyed the tracing overlays, really helps to see stuff quickly. Glad your not afraid to speak your mind. After you explained that short to ground, it made perfect sense on why the fuse was blow. Great work : )

Fun fact: If you accidentally touch a 12v LED strip to the 5v ARGB pin on this card, it fries not only the LED controller but also the fan controller
That was not a fun lapse of brain engagement

Very nice. I love watching these in the morning before awful work.

A lot of people confuse a scientific theory with a random hypothesis.

Good thing you had The Rock to help you identify the issues. 😄 Great videos, keep up the good work!

Didn’t expect a gpu repair to turn into a Theory of Knowledge lecture, although I wouldn’t mind more of these philosophical repairs.

I can attest that NWR resurrects video cards from the dead on a regular basis .. so he MUST be the way, the truth, and the LED light 😀👍 Keep up the great work

Theory is one thing, hypothesis is something entirely different. A hypothesis is an idea trying to explain something (which is what you meant) and when it gets proven with evidence it turns into a theory. Evolution is proven nowadays by genetics and, in fact, you see it every day: did you inherit any physical quality from your parents? Nose? Maybe hair color? That's genetic information from a previous generation (your parents) being combined into a new generation (you). And you don't look Chinese, right? Well that's evolution taking a different path right in front of you there.

Just a tip on science facts.

Thank you for this video. I have a Red LED of Death on the RTX 3080 FWT3 and have verify that it is a issue with the card. I was optimistic that I could solder on the part that was the point of failure because, from my understanding the red LED issue is the power distribution circuit failing. My only concern is if I mess up the soldering job that I could short circuit or cause damage to my motherboard.

Please talk about stuff you know something about, like electronics repairs. There is a lot of evidence for evolution, like some moths turning black during the massive pollution of the beginning of industrialization or new variants of viruses getting more resilient and popular than others.

This is a chronic issue plaguing evga 3080/3090 because evga cheapen out on the voltage controller and used analog UPI 9511R . When transient load is high these cmoses kind of blows up. And sometimes when they do they sent 12v voltage straight to the core killing the core as well. It would not suprise me to see all evga 3080/3090 dead in a not so distant future.

Thickness of pads should be printed to graphics card pcbs or imprinted on the metal heatsink surface so you dont have to guess.
