GM will begin laying off 15,000 people this week, despite Trump’s campaign promises — workers say their communities will be decimated.

In political news, the General Motors company is set to lay off 15,000 factory workers, leaving many disappointed in President Donald Trump and the White House who promised to protect those jobs with the GOP tax plan. General Motors cars are partly built in Michigan, but with changes in the auto industry those plants are being shut down, which is contrary to what was promised by Trump. Jobs at General Motors are moving to Mexico.

These workers say their communities will be decimated as General Motors shuts down 5 manufacturing plants. GM reported getting
$157 million in benefits from Trump’s tax plan. Then it announced plans to close plants & lay off nearly 15,000 workers

Nanette: The community here in Lordstown, very strong, very resilient. The General Motors has always been like that mainstay. Lot of people out there are second or third generation workers. Their grandpa worked there and they came out there thinking they could have a good life too.

Nissan also says it will cut 700 jobs in the U.S.A financial analyst said GM is likely to announce more layoffs in 2019.

Nanette: General Motors is flush in money. They made $12 billion this year. We’re selling Chevy Cruze s. We sold 14,000 last year. There’s no crisis going on, it’s not ‘08. The tax bill was a scam. Since they closed 5 plants in the rust belt, they’ve announced they’re going to build the Chevy Canyon in [Ramos Arizpe] Mexico. They’re decimating entire communities. It’s not just the 3,500 workers at General Motors. It’s all the surrounding businesses. When Donald Trump came to town, and said he was going to fix it, they believed.

If you want to blame anyone, blame GM management. I worked at Lordstown GM plant, and lost my job January 2017. I went back to school, found a more secure job and will never own another GM product. Trump did everything he could to shame GM, but they took American tax money and built plants in Mexico. If you must blame a politician, blame Clinton for NAFTA. That one signature probably lost more American jobs than any other single act by a politician.

Y'all are too old to not have learned this lesson by now and to have learned the lesson many other ppl have had to learn: that sometimes you have to reinvent yourself later in life to survive in a country that only cares about the rich.
